“ Genre: Junior Books / Author: Judy Katschke, Mary-Kate Olsen / Mass Market Paperback / Reading Level: Ages 9-12 / 112 Pages / Book is published 1999-02 by HarperEntertainment / Alternative title: Two of a Kind: Sleepover Secret „
I used to be a massive fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley between the ages of ten and thirteen! I thought that they were so cool, and had all of their DVDs and books. The other day, I found a box of my old Mary-Kate and Ashley things, and so decided to review them ; the first, one of their books.
Sleepover Secret is based on their television programme 'Two Of A Kind' which is currently showing on Sky's 'Pop Girl' channel. It's A Twin Thing is the first book in the 'Two Of A Kind' book series. In fact I saw an episode of this show on the television the other day, and I reminded me of how much I loved this show. Two Of A Kind is about American twins Mary-Kate and Ashley, who play themselves in the show ; eleven year old twins, who live in Chicago. They live with their single-parent father ; their mother died when they were seven. Their father is a lecturer at the local university. Mary-Kate is the cool one, loves sport, hangs out with guys and is the total opposite of Ashley is very girlie, and loves boys and shopping.
Ashley holds a sleepover party and is so excited when the most popular girl in their year, Jennifer accepts her invite. The girls are having a great time....that is until Mary-Kate reveals during a game of truth or dare, that she has kissed a boy. Ashley is annoyed at her twin especially as she never told her, and now everyone thinks that Mary-Kate is cooler and becomes more popular than Ashley? What will Ashley do? Read Sleepover Secret to find out!
This book is suitable for all girlie girls and girls between the ages of nine and thirteen who like reading. I think that the books are also really good, because the fact that they are quite 'cool' means that it will encourage young girls to read. The style of writing is easy to read, and the book itself at just over one hundred pages long is not simple, yet not too difficult either which means it strikes a perfect balance.
Young teens will be able to relate to this especially at the 'target group' of readers are the same age as Mary-Kate and Ashley were at the time of release. Readers will also be interested in the same kinds of things as the girls too , such as shopping, sports, boys and fashion!
I would definately recommend this book to all young girls! You can buy a copy of this book from play.com for less than £2 , which I think is fantastic value!
This book would make a perfect stocking filler this Christmas. There are also many other books in this series available!
Thanks for reading!
