My son received this book for his first birthday. At the moment he is way too young for it and I don't say that too often about books as I think its never too young to start reading or looking at books but this one is definitely more suited for a child who has an interest in things under the sea and in learning about it but that's not to say its not a good book because it full of wonderful pictures, bright colours and lots of things to keep little adventurers entertained.

See under the Sea invites you to, "Explore the world beneath the sea, from coral reefs teeming with jewel-bright fish to the icy waters of the Arctic. Lift the flaps to peer inside shipwrecks and gaze into the dizzying depths of dark trenches at the very bottom of the ocean."

As it says above this is a lift the flap book and on each page there are about five plus flaps to lift and things to read about. I think the flaps are done really cleverly because they will show a fish about to eat a worm on the outside of the flap and then when you lift it up you will see the worm in his mouth and a little explanation about what the worm is. All the flaps are like this and explain what you are seeing which is great.

The book is divided into 8 Chapters:

2. The sea you can see
3. Buried treasure
4. Tropical waters
5. Cold as ice
6. Deeper and Deeper
7. On the move
8. A sea of change

Hidden treasure is a really interesting section as it deals with divers and lost pirate booty from years ago. There is a cool picture of a buried ship and everything you could expect to find on it. I also like the sea of change chapter as this deals with what litter and pollution do to our beaches and waters and gives us something to think about.

At times I find this book quite busy though and hard to read in places. On some pages there is so much going on that you're not sure if you have turned over every flap and read all the information so I think it might be confusing for some children. That said this is a really colourful book, full of really good information and if your child is studying this in school it has some really great things to learn.
