Usborne Touchy Feely Books: That's Not My Dragon... - Fiona Watt

Advantages: A colourful and interactive book.
Disadvantages: None!
Upon receiving some money off my father for Christmas, and having strict instructions that whatever it was spent on must be of the child's choosing, I found myself with the unenvienable task of helping him spend it reasonably wisely, and not splurge it all on sweets! (which at one point he really wanted to!).
Upon one of our many, many trips to our local Asda, we were lucky enough to stumble across a sale rail that was being set up as we walked past, I loitered around for about 10 minutes, or at least until the girl arranging the display walked away and went for a rootle!
On this display there were many different children's books, two of which I intend to review, one of which I will review now!
The book I will now review is "That's not my dragon..."
These books are ideal for my son, he is going through the "destructive" stage, which began when he could move and I assume will end when he is old enough to dispel it from his person with alcohol!
The pages are all very sturdy and thick cardboard, and all have bright and vivid pictures, very colourful and eye catching.
The basic concept of these books are the fact they "touchy feely" books.
Each page has a picture of a cartoon dragon, all very different in look to the previous, all brightly coloured and all have a certain part of the picture with touch aspect to it.
For example page one has a picture of a large lilac dragon, spread over a double page with the statement that "that's not my dragon.... It's spots are too slimy" The picture then has the spots down the tail of the dragon in a shiny, padded and textured material, ideal for little fingers to touch and explore, this, I have personally found, leads onto further conversations. Once your child has mastered the words used in the book the scope for further vocabulary is immense.
We now read the books and try to think of different words to describe the different textures!
And there are many different textures to pick from, there is felt, a fuzzy material, Velcro, polystyrene the choice of materials is in fact endless.
These books are available from Amazon with the starting price being anything as low as £3.70, I was lucky enough to get this book for £1.00 in the Asda sale, so I assume these books are available from other places as cheap.
There are many different variations on the "that's not my..." books, these range from that's not my dragon, through to that's not my bunny with every other theme imaginable. There are even Christmas and winter themed ones, the that's not my reindeer and penguin ones are particularly nice.

Summary: The perfect and almost indestructable childrens book.
