I recieved the book Why I Love My Mummy as a present from my daughter for Mothers Day (obviously my mum bought it as my daughter is only two but it still made me cry!!). This is a lovely little book illustrated by Daniel Howarth, and it is published by Harper Collins Childrens Books. The book is designed specifically for children to give to their mummy as a special keepsake, hence the reason I was given it as a present on Mothers Day.
On the cover of the book there is a lovely picture of a mummy and baby rabbit in the grass, and it shows the mummy kissing the baby's foot. The title is at the top of the cover in large pink letters, just underneath "For mummies everywhere, in children's very own words"
Inside the cover there is a large white box with "To my mummy love from .............." leaving a space for your child to write their name. On each page there is a short sentence written by a child about why they love their mummy.
"I love my mummy because......she holds my hand."
"I love my mummy because.....she is beautiful."
"I love my mummy because.....she kisses me better." - this is the front covers example
Each page has a picture of a baby animal and their mummy and the picture depicts what the sentence is about. For example the first page shows two penguins holding hands. The final page shows all the animals together and states "Everyone loves their mummy - especially....." and you turn the page to reveal "ME!" along with a heart shaped frame in which you can insert a picture of you and your child!
When I received this book, I really was moved to tears and being a mum you can relate to every single page in the book! I love how this is written by children as it shows the really simple things that they love about their mums and made me realise that it is the simple things they love and it doesn't have to be about all the materialistic stuff. My daughter tells me she loves me all the time which is great, but she is also a little materialistic already (yes my fault I know!!) so I love how reading this together shows her what love is about. When we get to the page about cuddles, she always tells me she loves my cuddles and this always makes me feel good.
This really has been one of the best presents I have received from my daughter, and it is something that I will keep for the rest of my life. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking to help a child buy a present for their mummy, I guarantee it will go down well!
As it was a present I am unsure where it was purchased from, but the price on the back of the book is £4.99. I have since seen it on Amazon for cheaper.
I cannot recommend this enough, a truly fantastic gift for any mummy. Thank you for reading my review.
Why I love my mummy is a book which is illustrated by Daniel Howarth but uses the words of real children.
The book is designed for children to give to mummies as a keepsake and I was given this book by my three year old son, obviously purchased by someone else.
Inside the cover is a box which states "To my mummy with Love" and a space to write the child's name. The book is a simple book with page after page of words from children who explain why they love their mummy. The reasons are simple like she plays with me, she always hugs me and helps me sleep at night. Each page is accompanied by a picture of a small animal with their mummy. These illustrations are beautiful and show the compassion and bond between a mummy and their child. The final page shows all the animals stating everyone loves their mummy especially and then on the reverse is the words "me" and a heart shaped photo frame which holds a photo.
When my son gave me this book and I read it for the first time it brought tears to my eyes. Each page you can relate to as a parent and makes you realise that it is the little things that a child loves about their parent .It isn't big gifts or expensive trips that makes a child love you. I actually keep this with my son's books and occasionally read it to him and use it as a discussion point. My son is a loving child who will spontaneously tell me he loves me but can also be very materialistic and I think it is good even at his young age to discuss what is important.
I do think this is a wonderful book to receive from a young child. It is a book I shall treasure. If you need to help a child buy a gift for their mummy I would highly recommend this.
This book is available in hardback, Paperback and Board book. The paperback book which is the version I own is available on Amazon Market Place for 1p plus £2.75 postage and Packaging.
