Yum, Yum, Poppy Cat!
Advantages: Short, easy for little hands, cute
We have recently been going through my eldests baby books to pass down to her younger sister and some of these books were the Poppy Cat board books. There are quite a few books in the series although we only own five of them, the books retail at £3.99 each which I think is a good price for them as they have touch and feel bits aswell. The books are written and illustrated by lara Jones and were published by Macmillan Children's Books.
The front of the book has a border running down the left hand side as all of them seem to have, the border is made up of pastel coloured rectangles and this continues onto the back of the book where it borders every side. There is a picture of Poppy cat on the front of the book licking her lips and holding a large piece of cake, the cake has a soft felt feel piece of fabric in it which is slightly padded. The name of the book is written in black across the top and the authors name is written in purple at the side. The colours on the front cover are bold and bright to attract young children.
Inside the book there are 5 double pages about what Poppy Cat likes to eat, on the first page we start with poppy Cat liking to eat jelly and the jelly is made of a plastic feel bright red material which is padded to stick out from the page. On the second page Poppy Cat is liking to eat pears which are made a of green thick textured paper, this page is followed by Poppy Cat liking to eat chocolate (who doesn't) On the fourth page Poppy Cat likes to eat spaghetti where there is a piece of wool sticking off the page for a piece of spaghetti and on the final page he is eating apple pie "Poppy Cat eats apple pie and then she licks the plate" the plate is made of white shiny card which feels really smooth.
Throughout the book you see a number of Poppy Cats friends such as a dog, a mouse, another cat and a rabbit, the friend are enjoying the food with Poppy Cat. The pictures are all bold and the colours are great for holding my daughters attention. I like that gthere are touch and feel parts to the book but my daughter doesn't seem to like the feely bits in this book as much as some of the others which I think is because there are no animals to stroke in this one. I also like that this book refers to both healthy and unhealthy foods rather than just what a child is likely to prefer to eat although at the moment my little one loves her veg so I do hope that continues.
This series of books is great, they are made of board for little fingers to be able to turn the pages easily and the stories are short with only a few words to each page which is good for holding my daughters attention as she won't sit still for long. I would recommend these books for anyone with young children and they are certainly work the £3.99 price tag.
