Kérastase Nutritive Oleo-Curl Curl Definition Cream
by MEL0611
If you have read any of my previous reviews then you will know that my hair causes me no end of stress! It is never straight or curly, just more of a mess! I have been growing it of late and been wearing it curly as it stops me having to use hair straighteners on it and then encourages the growth. One of the products that I have been ... using is the Kerastase Oleo Curl definition cream. There are only a certain number of hair products that seem to work for me but this is one of them and here are my thoughts on the product.
The Kerastase brand is one that I was introduced to a few years ago now. It is certainly not the cheapest of hair products but for me it is worth every penny as it actually works and is a firm favourite. The bottle that I have is the 150ml bottle and at full price it will cost you around the Ł16.00 mark which for a product I guess is a little expensive but for me as I mentioned it does work. I tend to buy my product from the HQ Hair website, it is reliable and the cheapest. High street stores don't stock the brand but many hairdressers or beauty salons will have it available, even Amazonsells it!
The bottle doesn't look particularly any different from others in shape or size. It is made from plastic and it is a vibrant orange colour. There is the Kerastase logo on the front followed by the name of the product. On the reverse of the bottle is all you need to know about using the product, a list of the ingredients that have been used as well as further information on the product itself as well as others in the range (Shampoos and conditioners etc.) we are told that this product will leave hair feeling soft and supple as well as looking shiny. Curls will be well defined and disciplined. It is worth noting that the product is also good for heat protection.
The cream comes out of the bottom of the bottle and it is quite thick in texture but smooth as well and so only a small amount is needed. The best way to put this into your damp hair I find is to tip your head upside down and work it through with your fingers, root to tip as directed. There is a lovely fresh fragrance to the product, slightly fruity but really clean and light and it will linger slightly in your hair which I find really appealing.
The cream is not that sticky which I also like and it doesn't leave your hair feeling greasy which is really important to me; I have tried so many others that have left my hair feeling really greasy on the root. The results of this product are amazing, a strong word I know but my curls are left frizz free as well as staying in place. It is not as if there is too much hold on them, it is just that they are really defined and look as if they are healthy and with good shine to them.
I have nothing but high praise for the product and I think even though there is a high price involved, it works and so I would be happy to pay it again. I have had this bottle for about 4 months and there is a little left in the bottom still so it will last as well.
5 out of 5 from me on this one

Kerastase Resistance Ciment Thermique
by Vera_T
I regularly bleach and dye my hair blonde, so I am always on the lookout for products that will help me keep it strong and healthy. I decided to try Kerastase as it is claimed to be one of the leading brands in hair care. Ciment Thermique is a heat-activated cream treatment that is supposed to seal the hair cuticles, smooth the hair, and ... help manage and style it. I used it on towel dried hair, massaging a walnut-sized amount starting from the ends through to the lengths and applying a bit on the roots too. You only need a small amount as if you use more than required the hair can look greasy. After applying the cream I used a blow dryer and styled my hair.
Well, what can I say... My hair is slightly damaged from all the bleaching and dying, but not extremely so. I really expected miracles from this product, hearing all the buzz about Kerastase (hmm.. this rhymes... :) ). Unfortunately, I did not see much of the effects that were claimed. My hair with Ciment had less flyaways compared to "naked" hair with no products in, and the ends were less dry (again, compared to hair with no product). However, I did not experience a wow factor- I can see similar results with cheaper products. Also, I felt that my hair with Ciment was coarser than usual. I suppose this product might work better for those who straighten or curl their hair, as it may hold the style in place, but as I just rough dry mine, I felt the hair was too coarse and felt unnatural. I didn't like the smell either- it felt too chemical. Overall, I guess this product might not work for all, and I think it's possible to achieve similar effect with a cheaper product. Kérastase Reflection Chroma Reflect Rich Radiance-Enhancing Masque
by littledirty
--Kératase--
Kératase are a French salon-only brand owned by L'Oreal. They are well known as one of the big players in the haircare market, and their products are used in high end salons throughout the world.
--What this is--
This is a "masque" (or mask) that is meant to be applied in the ... conventional way; after shampooing to towel dried hair and then left in for a while. The range is designed for coloured hair, and is meant to enhance shine and flexibility, which colour treated hair can lack, whilst keeping the colour bright and pretty.
--What they say it will do--
This product has some big claims. It says it will "transform the texture hair leaving it silky soft and the colour brilliant and luminous". That's big boy talk. How does it say it'll do this?
--It contains...--
Fibronic system: to boost reflection (or more simply, shine)
Ceramide: protects the hair at cuticle level
Catonic Polymer: Hair is left supple and soft
Canelilla wax: Protects hair from external agressions
UV filters: to protect hair from the sun's UV filters (DUH)
--Other products in the range--
Kérarase usually have a three step system in their ranges, these are bathe, treat, and texturise. Bathe and treat are shampoo and condition basically. Here's a list of the products in this range and what they actually do/are:
Shampoo: Bain Chroma Riche
Cleansing Balm: Chroma Sensitive
Conditioner: Lait Chroma Reflect
Serum: Fluide Chroma Riche
Protective leave in: Chroma Thermique
Shine Mist: Chroma Crystal
Hairspray: Chroma Sensetive Laque Fixante
--Packaging--
This comes in a fairly large (200ml) pink tub, which makes it clear in my opinion that it's a mask, the lid is a clearer plastic than the base, and the shapes kind of go against eachother, making it look a bit like UFO. Just look at the picture! I've thrown mine away because it's broken and the product is currently in a Tresemme tub so I can't tell you what it says on it...
--Where did I get this?--
I have a friend who owns a salon, which means I get to at least test out a fair few bits. I got this because she dropped it whilst cleaning the shelves and the lid cracked, which is why I've thrown it away. The RRP is just over Ł26 but you can find it for slightly less if you shop around.
--Using it--
Kératase recommend that you use a hair bath from themselves, which is basically a posh shampoo that you leave in for a couple of minutes, but you can just shampoo as normal, which is what I do. You then towl dry your hair (just enough to get the excess moisture out, and dab, don't rub or you'll break your hair and make it worse) and apply the product. Leave for 5-10 minutes (I always leave it for longer whilst I sit in the bath), and then add a small amount of water, massage as you would if you were shampooing, rinse and style as normal.
--My opinion--
I don't actually have colour treated hair per-se, but I dyed it back to brown from being blonde around a year ago. My own roots have grown out and I've not dyed over them, but the lengths of my hair are a lighter brown from fading (giving me a dip-dyed look), and in quite bad condition.
This product makes my hair very shiny and seems to enhance the different colours in my hair, so the lengths look lighter and my natural reddish highlights in my actual hair colour seem more prominent, but it's not like looking at glass or anything. It does make it very soft, but slightly too soft for me. I have very coarse, thick, naturally curly hair, and when it's too soft it just goes fluffy and won't hold a style, whether I straighten it or not.
I do like the shine this gives, but I don't think the price is worth it in my opinion, as the effects seem to have worn off by the next wash, although I understand that nothing can actually repair damaged hair. It smells beautiful though, I can't pinpoint a specific smell but it just smells like an expensive hair salon. The smell seems to linger for a few hours after use.
I've used this 3 times and have about half left, my hair is just below my shoulders and very thick. Read the complete review |
