Morphy Richards 43775 Cream Accents
by Doglovers
I have lost count of the number of kettles we have purchased in our household over the years. For one reason or another they bite the dust and off we go on the search for a replacement.
We have tried most brands and price ranges but still they either develop a leak, are unwieldy, noisy or just stop working. I think it may have ... something to do with the amount of tea and coffee we drink!
My husband chose this particular kettle as he was fed up with my non stop moaning about how noisy our current kettle was. I usually spend loads of time researching noise levels , reliability ,energy usage cost etc. He simply went into Debenhams chose it without factoring in any of my usual criteria and brought it home.
The Product
This is quite a traditional design and comes in many colours - we have it in cream with a grey handle and base and the lid and spout is stainless steel.
It came in a large box and was well packaged.
Nothing complicated about this kettle,it has a base unit which you plug into the wall. Simply stand the kettle on the base unit after filling it with water and press the switch down and wait for it to boil.

The on/off switch is illuminated
A 30KW concealed rapid boil
Removable limescale filter
Failsafe cut out

What Do I Think
I love the design of this kettle and the traditional country cream colour goes well in our kitchen, but I feel would look good in most colour schemes.
It is easy to fill either from the lid or the spout and if you take the lid off to fill, it goes back snugly and easily, so no danger of the lid coming off when you pour the water.
I don't use the water level indicator, as I very rarely fill this to capacity, however it is one of the worst parts of this kettle as the level is difficult to read as it condenses inside.
The lead on the base unit is quite short , however that is usually the case with most kettles. A plus point is the lead behaves itself and doesn't get in the way.
The base is sturdy and the kettle fits onto it easily , so no struggling with finding the right position when you put it back after filling.
It never fails to switch off once it has boiled -but one thing to watch out for is that the on off switch which is at the base of the kettle is not pressed up against something. I had it too close to my fridge and it did not switch off as it was jammed, luckily I spotted something was amiss when I realised the kitchen had turned into a steam room.
The cut out works as I regularly try to boil without sufficient or no water in the kettle. It simply switches off, so no danger of boiling the kettle dry.
A real bonus for me is that it is relatively quiet, not silent but even when it is due for descaling it doesn't make your head hurt with the noise level. Our last one was so noisy you had to shout as it was impossible to hear what anyone was saying when it was switched on.
I tend to use this for making one or 2 mugs of tea or coffee and fill accordingly. I find that it boils really quickly although I haven't timed this , it is usually boiled by the time I have assembled the drink.
It pours really well and the handle is comfortable to hold .
I find it easy to clean , just a wipe with a damp cloth is sufficient.
The only issue I have with this kettle is limescale has developed around the handle where it meets the kettle and this has corroded part of the cream paint down to stainless steel. That is partly down to not cleaning around the handle properly and had that been done I may not have had this problem.
I descale periodically as I don't care for bits of scale in my tea and it comes up as good as new.
The filter is removable so can be washed to keep it clean.
I estimate we have had this for around 2 years and fngers crossed no problems so far (touch wood). This is a bit of a record for us!
Would I Recommend
When this kettle bites the dust I will definitely buy the same model again as it is quick, quiet and looks good.
It is pricy at around £50 if you pay full price and is wdely available in a range of colours.
It has lasted the longest of any kettle we have purchased in the past 10 years, so in terms of quality and efficiency this has delivered.
There is an issue with the paint finish, which has peeled off, but that I feel is my fault. Years of using all plastic or all stainless steel has meant this wasn't an issue for me before, but limescale has developed around the handle recently and I think may have been avoided if I had cleaned around the spout with a limescale cleaner.
A 5 star product but 1 star off due to the problem with the water indicator and the paint peel. Read the complete review |

Tefal Inox Gloss Kettle
by NotMyToothbrush
I have been using this kettle for about a year now. We bought it off amazon where it was on sale for £25 at the time - this was the main reason we bought it.
We bought the kettle mainly because we liked the look of it - this, along with price, is all you really have to go off when buying a kettle online though. Luckily, when ... we tried it out, it was very good indeed.
The build quality of the kettle was excellent, everything about it seems very solid and I have no doubt that it will last for years to come.
I was impressed with how fast this kettle can boil water. Obviously, the less water, the less time it takes to boil, however even if the kettle is full with 2 litres of water, its maximum, boiling takes only a couple of minutes which is far faster than many of the cheaper kettles I have used in the past.
The kettle is very comfortable to hold thanks to a well designed handle whose button at the top makes opening the kettle very easy to do also without burning your hand on the steam to do so in the way that certain kettles do. Read the complete review |

Tefal Inox Gloss Kettle
by jo1976
I'd had a Tefal kettle that lasted well over three years without fail so I was set on replacing it with another model from Tefal. Even I when I set out to buy another kettle, my old Tefal was still in full working order and only being replaced due to an unsightly build up of limescale around the outer edge of the lid. Finding a ... replacement Tefal kettle was harder than I'd expected - possibly because Tefal is better known for its range of quality pots and pans than for household appliances. Luckily, I found this Tefal Inox Gloss kettle on offer in Argos which fitted my requirements perfectly.
Most of my kitchen white goods are, well, white but the cooker and my new microwave are both black so this white kettle, with contrasting black features, seemed like a good choice to blend in with all of my appliances. It fits in perfectly with my kitchen and I should imagine is neutral enough to slot into any style of kitchen. For anybody wanting something a little more distinctive, this kettle is also available in an attractive raspberry colour or entirely in black. Personally, I think the contrast between the white body and the black base and plastic handle, alongside the exposed stainless steel lid and spout, works well making this version my preferred choice.
From a distance, this kettle could almost pass for a plastic kettle with metal components but this is actually a metal kettle with the main body being covered in an enamel-like white coating. This is not only attractive but also really functional as I find that metal kettles are much more robust and longer lasting than plastic versions but the coating here makes this kettle very easy to keep clean. Stainless steel kettles are a magnet for fingerprints and marks but the smooth glossy exterior of this kettle can be wiped clean easily, making this a practical option. The 360 degree base has plenty of spare cord which winds cleverly underneath the base to avoid unnecessary clutter on the worktop and the concealed element leaves the interior of the kettle looking as clean as the exterior.
I also particularly like the black plastic handle which is really thick but comfortable to hold, with the handle tapering slightly towards the base. The on/off switch is logically located at the base of the handle and the top features a sliding switch which opens the lid. I tend to fill the kettle via the spout, which is generously proportioned to make it perfectly suited to this task, whereas the lid doesn't open quite far enough to manoeuvre it comfortably under my tap to use this method. Pouring the water is a pleasure with the spout being rounded towards the centre to avoid any splashes or uneven pouring. There is a removable and washable filter slotted inside the spout to ensure fresh tasting water too.
With a 1.5 litre capacity, this kettle is more than adequate for my everyday culinary needs and isn't too heavy to hold and pour even when full to capacity. Water levels are easy to identify with a gauge visible on both sides of the kettle, so suitable for either left or right handed use. During use, the gauge lights up an attractive shade of blue which was an unexpected but pleasing feature. I do find the light is less noticeable during broad daylight which can be a little confusing as there is no other obvious indication that the kettle is switched on.
The noise levels are incredibly low, despite having a powerful 3000 wattage. I find the speed of boiling to be pretty impressive, living up to its 'fast boil' claims although I do tend to only fill this to the minimum 0.5 litre level, particularly when making a brew. At that level, this only takes a couple of minutes to reach boiling point, making a satisfying click to alert me to the fact. Even when full, this kettle boils quickly and smoothly.
I was lucky enough to pick this stylish kettle up for just £29.99 from Argos earlier this year, when I would quite happily have paid the full RRP of £44.99. This kettle no longer appeals to be on sale at Argos but can currently be purchased from Amazon for less than £40. This does make it quite an expensive kettle but I do think the quality that I've experienced from Tefal in the past, coupled with the style and functionality makes this great value for money and an appliance that I'm happy to recommend.
