Argos Value Cordless Kettle
Disadvantages: Takes a while to boil
When we first bought our twins home from hospital they were having top up formula bottles which we were using ready made carton formula for. When we started making formula up we needed cooled boiled water and by this point we were also having to make up infant gaviscon which also required cooled boiled water. Lots of kettle boiling with the kettle then not available to boil to make a cup of tea. My husband wasn't keen on the number of times I was saying 'don't boil the kettle for the next half hour' as he likes his cup of tea (not that he often got a chance to drink it before it got cold!) We decided it would be worthwhile to buy a cheap second kettle just for the twins requirements and our original kettle could go back to it's normal purpose.
How does it look?
It is of very plain design as you would expect from a value range product, but it looks smart enough in the kitchen. There is a water guage on the front so you can ensure you have put the minimum amount of 0.50 litres water in. As we were only boiling small amounts sometimes this was useful to us. The water guage then has measurements every 0.25 litres up to the maximum 1.7 litres. This is a reasonable capacity and was more than sufficient for what we wanted.
Filling it up
This is simple to do, you pull back the sliding panel on the lid which releases it and allows you access to the inside of the kettle for filling. The lid easily clicks back into place when you press it down. As this is a cordless kettle you just stand it back onto it's base and you're ready to boil.
The on/off is on the side of the kettle and lights up when you turn it on, it automatically switches itself off when it has boiled. I find it takes quite a while to boil even quite small volumes, it's much slower than our other kettle and I wouldn't want to be waiting for this one to boil when I wanted a drink. As we wanted this kettle for cooled boiled water we just turned it on half an hour before we wanted to use it and left it.
Pouring it out
The kettle has an easy to pour from spout, it is a decent size and I find it pours really well. There is a filter over the spout to stop any limescale being poured out.
The outside of the kettle is easily wiped clean and none of the water guage markings have faded. The filter in the spout is easily cleaned and I haven't needed to descale it which I think is good as we live in a fairly hard water area and have had it nearly 2 years.
Price and availability
As an Argos product it is only available from their shops or www.Argos.co.uk It is currently priced at £5.48 which is great value for money.
Would I recommend?
Yes, this is a great value kettle but if you don't mind waiting a while for it to boil.
Summary: A great value range kettle
