Asda Smart Price Kettle
Advantages: Cheap, design fits in well with every kitchen, boils quickly, large capacity.
Disadvantages: A longer cord would be good.
When my old flat mates moved out of the house I shared with them, they took (stole) the kettle leaving me in need of a new one. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a new kettle as I am a student and simply don't have £50 to spend on a fancy, colourful kettle than does the same job as a £5 one. Therefore I decided to give the Asda Smart Price kettle a go.
I have been using the kettle for about 4 months now.
The kettle is priced at £5.00. It comes with a 1 year guarantee from Asda, meaning if it is faulty when you buy it, or develops problems within a year of purchasing it, you can have either a replacement or a full refund. You just have to remember to keep your receipt safe.
The kettle itself hasn't got a fancy or quirky design to it, but personally I like this. I wanted a kettle that was plain in style and a neutral colour so that it wouldn't stand out like a sore thumb. As I am moving into a new place with my other half soon and we don't know what colour the kitchen will be, this kettle will fit in perfectly.
The kettle has a 1.7L capacity, meaning if you have quite a few guests round, you can make tea all round with only one fill of the kettle. I have found that when full, the kettle provides 6-7 mugs of water which is more than enough in my opinion. It takes approximately 3 minutes for the kettle to boil completely when full. However, I normally only fill it with enough water for 2 mugs therefore it takes just over a minute to boil.
The on-off switch has a light indicator that automatically flicks itself off when the kettle has boiled. The kettle also has a water level window allowing you to see how much water you have filled the kettle with. This is quite handy if you only want to boil 1-2 mugs of water. The kettle has a detachable filter on the spout to catch any limescale that may have accumulated. It is very easy to clean and isn't showing any signs of wear yet. The lid opens reasonably widely, making filling the kettle effortless.
The power unit for the kettle is in the base which is detachable from the rest of the kettle. This makes the kettle cordless once it has boiled which can be handy if you have lots of people round and want them to help themselves to hot water for their drinks. The kettle has an automatic shut off when the water has boiled giving you peace of mind safety-wise. However, as far as I am aware, all modern kettles have this feature. The smart price kettle also has boil dry protection, which again is reassuring safety-wise. My only criticism of the kettle would be that I would have liked the cord that is attached to the base to be slightly longer.
Overall, the kettle is great quality for the price and has not let me down so far. I will be keeping an eye on how long this kettle lasts so I can update my review in the future. The design is plain and simple which I like and the large capacity of this kettle means that you can provide drinks for a larger group of people with minimal effort.
Summary: A great kettle for the price
