I first got this kettle three and a half years ago when I got married as we put it on our wedding list, so I have no idea how much it cost, I just can't remember, but I think it was about the £40 mark. I have always liked the look af a traditional whistling kettle, but when it comes to everyday use, can you be bothered?
So this covered it all really. It has a traditional look, but electric, and doesn't compormise on quality. The water heats up very quickly, and I haven't noticed axcessive amounts of noise. Obviously there is some, but in comparison to other kettles I have no problem with this.
When it is full, it is heavy so this is why I like the handle on top as it is so much easier moving it from the sink to the plug socket, as opposed to those kettles with the handle on the side. Now I am used to this, if I make a drink at a friend's house, I almost forget how to hold a normal kettle as it seems like such a strain on your wrist holding it upright when it is full! The handle is also very sturdy and no way near the spout so no scalds.
On the back is a water gauge to see how many cups you will get out of the water, which always helps.
The one downside with a metal kettle is I am forever touching it just after it has boiled. You would think I would learn! But I think that is just me being clumsy rather than a design flaw. And to be honest I would rather have a pretty kettle!
This kettle was the best i have ever owned, costing £44.98 from argos about 5 years ago.
I brought this kettle after my yellow kettle i previously reviewed gave up the ghost and refused to boil water.
This kettle is quite big and holds a lot of water, proably about 10 cups worth so it is great if you have a lot of visitors.
It takes 3 minutes to boil a full kettle and about 45 seconds to boil enough water for 2 cups of tea which i thought was great as by the time you have got the cups ready its done.
This kettle does get very hot on the out side and will burn you but the handle doesnt even get warm neither does the handle on the lid.
It holds its heat for ages.
This kettle does get quite a bad build up of lime scale but a good clean once a month soon sorts this out.
It has a metal gauze in the spout to catch any bits of limescale so they dont end up in you tea and is very easy to fill using the spout.
My kettle didnt stop working like all the others i have had it sprang a leak about 3 months ago from where the metal kettle conects to the plasic on the bottom but i think 5 years was a good life for this kettle.
