Advantages: Speedy boil
Disadvantages: The up keep costs
I've not been impressed with many of the Brita products up until now, they all seemed too much hassle and expenses to me. However when I recently went shopping for a new kettle I was drawn to this model. At first I didn't realise it was a Brita product I was just impressed by the design and features which I could see just from looking at it. When I saw that it was a Brita kettle it did make me hesitant to purchase, I didn't want to be paying out even more money monthly on Brita cartridges. In the end I decided I would give it a try because the design went with the kitchen perfectly.
COSTS
This kettle cost me £35 from the local Curry's, this seemed like an okay price for me, I was a little reluctant to pay it out but compared to other kettles it was an average price and the design was good. Considering when I had my normal Brita filter jug it cost me £20 paying an extra £15 for the kettle function didn't really seem too bad. The upkeep of this product is going to work out more expensive than the kettle itself, the cartridge filters that is needed for this product (Brita Maxtra filters) can be bought in a four pack on Amazon for £12, which works out to be £3 per cartridge. Its recommended to change the cartridge every 4 weeks which in total makes the kettle around £48 per year.
DESIGN AND EASE OF USE
The kettle has a 1 litre capacity which is more than enough for a few cups of tea so I wouldn't see myself needed a bigger capacity. However the flaw to this feature of the product is that the filter cartridge space only has a 500ml capacity, so it take a while for you to be able to fill the whole kettle. The water window is larger than my previous kettle and I've noticed that there's less spilling of water or over flowing so I guess this small feature makes quite a difference.
The filtering device is hidden and functions whilst the kettle is boiling, this doesn't really affect my opinion of this product in anyway other than the fact that I'm pleased you can't see the filtering device and the visual aspect of the kettle is maintained as a positive.
There's only one switch on the kettle which turns it on and flicks back when the kettle has fully boiled. When the kettle is boiling there's a blue glow all over the kettle which I think is a nice fresh touch to the design and one of the main aspects which won me over.
I have this kettle just as pictured, with the stainless steel, the steel is quite a bit heavier than my previous plastic kettle which is worth considering as it may affect how easy it is for you to use. I find the weight fine to use however it's not ideal for children learning to use the kettle or elderly people who have weaker joints.
DOES IT WORK?
The boiling speed of this kettle is impeccable, I'm so impressed with how rapidly it functions, it only takes just over a minute to boil the whole kettle! There is definitely a cleaner and purer taste to the drinks that are made using this kettle, so much that guests always comment on it. I can't fault the functions of this kettle because it does perform above and beyond what I expected.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
I'm pleased I purchased this product because the performance speed and appearance make the extra upkeep for the cleaner taste worthwhile. The kettle is easy to clean and looks as good as new every day. I prefer this over normal Brita filters because I used to use mine mainly for tea, coffee or cooking so it always felt pointless filling my jug to filter water to then pour into my kettle, with this product I only need to fill one container which seems like less hassle and more efficient.
RECOMMENDATIONS?
I'd recommend this product to most people purely because of the performance speed and efficiency, however you really do need to consider the extra up keep and whether its an expense you can afford. However it is a great product does everything it says on the box, so I can't really fault it.
