It's a kettle, and a decent quality one

It would appear that we have come a long way from the olde worlde method of putting a pan of water over an open fire, and hoping that the water boils before you're eligible to collect your pension. The Breville VKJ099 however does more than just 'boil water', which may raise a few eyebrows out there in suburbialand. Want it to blend in with your kitchen decor? Fed up with the existing colour scheme? Simply hit the button adjacent to the power on switch and, hey presto! The kettle changes colour in a riot of kaleidoscopic reconfiguration!

But, once you've ran the gamut of colour changes the novely will soon wear off. What you want to know is: can it do the job? Well, of course it can - it's reassuring easy on the eye, as the water level viewer instantly lets you know that there's enough water in there to boil, and the light touch button gizmo is a bit like a feature on your TV remote. Okay, it's just a kettle, albeit futurisic in design and functionality. As long as it can boil water, though ...

The device is safe to use, simplicity itself to install, and is fairly durable. 'nuff said, then. RRP, a bit under £60. Phew!
