Shiny New Kettle
Member Name: rufusdog
Advantages: Boils Quickly
We have been quite lucky with our kitchen appliances lately. My Other Half's dad moved into a new flat and the décor was different and none of his appliances matched the new kitchen so he gave them to us.
The kettle he gave us was one of these Breville Vkj138's. It is a really nice kettle, the outside is stainless steel which looks really smart in our kitchen as it is grey and lime green in colour. The kettle holds 1.7 litres of water and you can see easily how much water is in there by the markings on the side. There is a window on each side of the kettle so it doesn't matter which hand you are using to hold the kettle when you fill it up, you can always see what the water level is.
The kettle has a knob on the back at the top and when you press this it opens up the lid for you which is handy. There is a filter in the front of the jug lip so if you get lime scale in the bottom of the kettle it doesn't come out when you pour out the water.
How It Works
The kettle has a nice blue light in it that comes on when you switch the kettle on. I am not sure if this is just for show or what but it looks neat. It lights up all of the inside and you can see it through the windows. The kettle is quite noisy when it is working, I think this is because it heats the water up so quickly.
The base that comes with the kettle is easy to keep clean, and you plug this bit into the electric and you just stand the kettle on it. Once it is on you can turn it round facing any way you like and you don't need to turn the base round which is good if you want to run the wire along one way behind other things and still have the kettle facing which ever way you prefer it. It also makes it good for left handed or right handed use.
The outside of the kettle gets quite hot when it is boiled up because of it being made from stainless steel so you have to mind you don't accidentally touch it and always to keep it well out of the reach of children. It is quite heavy to lift up but the weight makes it feel like it is good quality. The shiny coating means it needs a lot of cleaning to keep it looking pristine but I usually do this when it is cold and use a window spray cleaner which I spray onto a cloth and not directly onto the kettle (in case it goes inside the spout).
The kettle is still available to buy on Amazon for £38.79.
