Kettles are one of those items I love to purchase and I tend to have many of them. I like big brand names and items which look smart and can fit into any kitchen style.
When I saw the Breville VKJ175 kettle go for as little as five pounds in a supermarket store a few months ago I made the purchase immediately.
I was impressed mainly by the fact it was a nice metallic finish and it was oval shaped. I had got fed up of the traditional cheap plastic looking kettles which looked as if they would collapse when you filled them up with water which is not useful at all.
The stainless steel finish in my view adds to the extra quality this item tends to have. You have a 1.7 litre capacity which is very useful but what I find good as well is that when you fill the product up with water you do have the meter to display how much water has been placed inside but you also have a nice blue light which flashes up to tell you that it is powering up.
The meter on the side gives you an indication of how many cups you can make with the quantity of water inside.
You have a nice solid lid which is fantastic because it fits perfectly and cannot come lose unless someone pulls it off so the safety aspect is there. The actual nose of the product for where the boiled water comes out to pour a nice cup of tea or coffee is wide and it makes filling up a cup pretty quick. However there are drawbacks to the huge size of this area because if you are nearby when the kettle has finished boiling the steam comes flying out and can burn you.
Another issue sometimes is that when you fill the kettle up and you go slightly past the meter you have on the side you might find yourself getting spillage issues when you pour the water out which again is not that useful.
The element is concealed within this kettle which is helpful and it is very easy to clean which can add plus points to the device. You have plenty to be satisfied with and I find there are a few other issues people might not want to know but I shall declare them now.
The kettle tends to get major issues around the lid opening and the base of the kettle. I have had this item for a few months and I have found that the white substance which is building up is actually taking away the colour and is impossible to clean away. I clean the kettle regularly so this has made me believe it might be lime scale.
The inside of the kettle is deep and wide as well so be weary when filling up the product with water.
