a stylish looking kettle that boils quickly by Breville

In our office we have been meaning to get a new kettle for a while, the one we had before literally took 5 minutes if not longer just to boil a half full kettle. We love our tea and coffee and this waiting time is just too long to get a caffeine fix so it was about time we bought a new one. I was put in charge of finding a good one and this is exactly what I did. I know good kettle brands and Breville always gets good comments, I haven't ever purchased this brand before for kettles but I loved the look of this particular model, it looks quite trendy and the colour was quite nice too and so we all agreed to go for this Breville VKJ487 model.

This kettle is quite unique looking but yet in some ways slightly old fashioned, it has a 1.8 litre capacity which is a pretty good size to hold. It has a cream stainless steel finish to it which works really well and fits in with our office, it has a rounded black handle on the top which again is quite old fashioned but it works in this modern stylish twist, contradicting I know but it is. It has a metallic stainless steel lid which you lift out to fill it up. This is quite a heavy kettle which is one of its downfalls and it measures at 28H x 22.5W x 20.7D in cm so it is a good size and it comes with a 1 year guarantee as well as being 3000 watts in power.

Now, the kettle looked great unpackaged at first, it has the rounded handle to lift it up with and make it easy to pour, this is very strong and it needs to be as the kettle is quite heavy, especially when full so this gives added support. It has non slip feet and sits on a rounded black base which it boils on, the kettle is quick to boil which is great, even when it is full of water it doesn't take long at all to fully boil and this makes life so much easier. It can be slightly noisier than some kettles to boil but I just consider this average as I have never owned a quiet boiling kettle. The kettle looks great and is easy to hold and handle.

In terms of what it offers, it has a 360 degree base for both left and right handed users, it has a rear water gauge for accurate filling, this looks nice on the side and is very easy to read from. It shows up to 8 full cups which is a good amount and has a max line so you know where you can fill it up to. It has a fast boil 3kw concealed element for easy cleaning and quick use and in total it makes up to 9 mugs of tea. There is cord storage on this too, it doesn't have the longest of cords so you do need to ensure you sit this quite near to a socket. This doesn't bother me too much though as I like that you are not dealing with cables and it sits neatly under the base.

When boiling this, this is probably the part I hate most, there is no fancy button to flip the lid, like the kettle I have at home, you need to pull the lid out which can be a bit stiff at times and then you place it back in once full. This is maybe just me being lazy but considering the price I like this kind of feature, once you are ready to boil, sit the kettle back onto the base and flip the switch which is on the side, it will light up a bright blue colour to let you know that the kettle is on boil. It is obvious anyway from the noise it makes, I always look after the kettle to make sure it is in good condition and keeps clean and not rusty.

The spout to pour out of is short and wide but it works well and aims right into the cup. There has never been any real problems with this kettle since our office have had it. I use it daily if not more than and it works well, it looks good and my only negatives are the lid and the weight as otherwise it has a great handle and boils at a good speed. They also do a toaster to match this which is good if you want it as a set in your kitchen. Breville seem to be a reliable brand and it is a good model. Whether I would buy it for my house, I have to be honest I wouldn't but for work it does the trick as it holds so much water which is what you want with a large office.

This kettle is available to purchase from Asda Direct where it is on sale for £34.96 which isn't the cheapest for this model but if you like the style then it does work out.
