      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Ok, though a cheaper model might be better

We did have one slightly embarrising issue with it (which turned out to be human error/a case of not reading the instructions). For about 3 months we were costantly taking the whole lid up, when filling it, which was a struggle - and we thought we had bought something realy annoying. We then figured out (saw someone use the same kettle) that the clear plastic on the top of the lid could be slid to either side to allow you to easily fill it up. Clearly Britta had thought of people like us who were fed up with having a lid to deal with when taking it to the tap. The kettle is quite noisy too when boiling, but has a good capacity and fits nicely onto it's stand. It's quite tall and can be a bit heavy to move when full. The filter seems to last for about a month at a time - one annoyance is the fact that the plastic pull handle at the top of the filter cartridge tends to snap very easily making it really hard to remove the old filter when replacing it. We live in a really hard water area (so limescale has been a problem before), but this kettle deals with it well. If you made a cup of tea from out old kettle you would get a residue at the top of the cup (not good when offering it to guests), but with this one, the cup is clear!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Looks great, BUT LEAKS, steam can escape and hurt hands, cold water mixes with hot.

When I bought this 4 years ago it was quite an expensive kettle. It was very stylish and looked smart on the graphite worktops. You can see how much water you are boiling in cups or litres once it has filtered. This should save money by using power only for the amount of water you need. When the water boils it is quick but rather noisy. Because the main body is see-through it fascinates children, beware and keep them at a distance as the sides get hot! There are problems with steam escaping through the sliding switch on the handle which can burn your hands. Also, the cold water often comes out at the same time as the hot. There is a filter section on the top of the kettle which takes Brita filters, naturally. This is quite slow to filter the water. And when it needs changing needs some patience to set up the new filter. You cannot boil water without filtering it first which can be annoying if you need the water for other uses than drinking. I was pleased with the performance, speed of boiling and taste of the water, for the first year. However, slowly there appeared fissures in the main body and gradually the kettle started to leak. This has made it unusable. Update as requested:- Filters cost around £2.50 each, shop around for deals try Robert Dyas, Boots and Tesco's. How long they last depends on usage. Present cost for kettle I suggest you try using 'shopbots' via a search engine for current price. Don't forget I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THAT YOU BUY THIS KETTLE unless you intend to replace it after say 2 years. Happy shopping.
