Advantages: Good value for money - looks nice - boils water
Disadvantages: pain to keep shiny - noisy
A few months ago I decided to update my kettle as my old one was looking a little sorry for itself. I liked the look of the stainless steel ones that seemed to be everywhere and so decided I would have one of these if I could find it at the right price. I had £20 in Argos vouchers to spend so decided to start my search there.
I found the Cookworks Stainless Steel Jug Kettle most appealing because it had the appearance I was looking for by at just over £11 pounds I liked the price too. From the picture in the catalogue the kettle looked like it was brushed stainless steel which was what I was looking for as I felt it would be easier to clean.
When I got the kettle home I was still very pleased with my purchase although the stainless steel was not brushed as I thought. This has caused me some problems always trying to keep it clear and looking shiny but it doesn't affect the working of the kettle. The level indicator is part of the handle and this is difficult to see but I find that I don't tend to use it very much anyway.
It is suggested in the instruction of use that you fill the kettle and boil it once before using the kettle. As I did this I noticed a nasty smell coming from my kettle a bit like the first time you use your oven after cleaning it. The instructions suggested that if you were still experiencing problems you should boil some bicarbonate of soda in the kettle. I had to boil the kettle up with and without bicarb about four times before I eventually managed to get rid of the smell.
I am please with the kettle overall but it is really noisy. If the kettle is boiling it is almost impossible to hold a conversation over the noise of it. My children always ask me to switch it off because it is too loud and they can't hear Peppa Pig! The only other issue I have with the kettle is that the sides of the kettle are very hot to touch once the water is boiled. My old jug kettle was plastic and you could comfortably touch the sides without hurting yourself but this one burns.
I would recommend the kettle as we have been happy with it. We have had it about six months and apart from trying to keep it clean all the time and the noise I think that for the money it was well worth it.
Summary: A good kettle for a very nice price
