Cookworks Jug Kettle
Advantages: Cheap, works well
Disadvantages: The stainless steel can got hot!
Reading my review on the Cookworks toaster you will see that I also purchased the matching kettle at the same time. We purchased the kettle 3 years ago and it came at a cheap price of £9.99 from Argos. It was a modern design and fitted nicely into our kitchen.
The kettle is different to most conventional ones. It is round in shape and shorter in height. It has a stainless steel surround with a black plastic base and handle. The lid on top is also plastic to prevent the heat from making it too hot to touch. The lid is easy to use. It is a simple pull back until it clicks then lift. The kettle is detachable from the circular base. The base has a 75cm cord attached which plugs into the wall. This is not too generous. You will find that the kettle will need to be positioned close to a socket due to this restriction so it would be a good idea to check before you buy!
From first sight you would think that it does not hold as much water due to its smaller appearance. However it holds 1.7 litres at full capacity. You definitely wouldn't want anymore than this as when it boils you can really see the steam coming out of it. The kettle has a spout on the top to pour the water from. For me, this prevents any spillage.
With the main surround being stainless steel you may find this is a hazard especially if it has been used before without your knowledge. But either way you will find that after use the surround gets very hot and a few times at the beginning I had burnt my hand on the side. I think this is only an initial problem as you soon learn not to put your hand too close.
I would say the boiling time is about average. When filled half way using cold water it generally takes 3-4 minutes to boil. Just about enough time to do it during the adverts of your favourite TV show! The noise level is also acceptable. When first switched on it can produce noise which is generally louder than some kettles but this is only temporary.
In my opinion the kettle is great for the price you pay for it. The main reason we went for the kettle was the price plus it matched our new toaster. We have kept it all this time and it is still in excellent condition so a good buy!
Summary: A good cheap kettle
