Cookworks Red Kettle
Advantages: Looks good
Disadvantages: Slow, loud
I recently had the misfortune of heading for my pre-bed cup of tea and finding a Kettle that was on the blink. So four weeks ago I had to head out into town on a wet Sunday morning to find a new Kettle. I headed straight to a local Argos and (although I did use some vouchers) picked this up for £14.99. I have used the Cookworks range on many occasions before and never had a problem with it so, parched and with a throat like a desert, I bought my Kettle and headed home.
The reasons why I bought this were three fold...a) the price was good and I don't like paying too cheap or you just end up replacing b) the brand name and previous success and c) the colour matches my kitchen. It also looks very stylish, very modern and looks more expensive than it actually is which always helps proceedings. Its very easy to look at and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in my otherwise expensive kitchen.
Its all also made from very sturdy and solid material, feels very secure and compact. It gets heavy with heavy as expected but is otherwise light, easy to handle and very easy to open and clean. The base sticks well to the bench without leaving marks, its solid and the connector is large so its easy to set down and put up. It's a nice girth as well so its easy to pour...............did I mentioned this was easy to use? :)
However, its not very quick. And by not very quick what I actually mean is slow. By the time this has boiled my thirst has gone and there is no such thing as a quick cuppa in my flat anymore...it's a long painstaking wait. Even my dirt cheap kettle of old is better than this, heck even the ring on my oven would boil a pan of water faster. Looks clearly have been given preference over quality.
One other downside I guess it's the noise. I live in a flat and the kitchen is next to the sitting room and even with the door shut this sounds like a rocket taking off. Its loud and when I say loud, I mean LOUD. When I first turned it on I though I was under attack. You will get used to it but the midnight cuppa will soon start waking neighbours.
Needless to say I am in no way impressed with the performance of this kettle. Sure enough it looks good and if looks could kill, this would make one hell of a cuppa but sadly the only think being killed here is patience as this is a slow loud kettle that is far best avoided!
