Advantages: looks lovely in the kitchen, boils quite quick, like the handle location, easy wipe clean
Disadvantages: rusted after a few months, expensive
You can not beat a cup of tea, not with anything. My kettle was on the way out so I bought one of these kettles before I moved house last year. I decided to get this one as it's available in a lovely deep red colour which matched my colour scheme in my old kitchen. I wasn't sure at first as it was a £79.99 but it was reduced to about £50 when I bought it which I still thought was quite expensive for a kettle. De'Longhi is a well known brand which is normally good quality though so I bit the bullet and bought it from Argos.
The kettle is really nice to look at. It's got a black base and handle with a little black ball ontop which you can take the lid off with. The kettle body is metal and red and the lid is silver with a silver ring around the body of the kettle. It's very stylish and looked great in my kitchen with black and red tiles and other matching red items. The button to make the kettle boil is beneath the handle at the bottom and simply flicks downwards to start it.
I like the location of the handle on this kettle. Since I've moved house (About August) I've bought a new kettle and had to get rid of this. The handle on the new kettle is ontop rather than on the side which makes it more awkward to use. Having the handle on the side of the kettle makes it easier to pour the water out which I miss about this kettle.
I normally fill the kettle about half way up and it does boil fairly quickly. It's not really a rapid boiling kettle as it is advertised as and it isn't paticularly quiet either. It's pretty standard, not too slow or loud but not really superb either.
The kettle is metal so it's easy to keep clean though the silver metal on the top gets on my nerves as it gets dirty and marked really easily and little water droplets make it look a bit filthy. I like the 360 base as I'm quite ambidextrous and often put the kettle down facing the other way with my left hand then I'll turn it round later to pick it up with the right hand. It's a basic feature of the kettle but one that I use quite often.
The lead of the kettle is quite long, long enough so you're able to put the kettle where you want it. The excess wire can be wrapped under the base where there's little plastic clips to hide it. I thought this was a great idea as you don't really want a long wire on your kitchen counter. The base is non-slip too so doesn't fall off the counter or slide around when you try to put the kettle back which is helpful.
I've looked on Argos to make sure I give an accurate price for my review and have found they do this kettle in eight different colours now including black, baby blue, white and an unusal green colour. I really like the baby blue but I wouldn't spend £79.99 on it and it wouldn't match my kitchen now anyway.
I only had this kettle for about 6 months when it started to rust at the top, just beneath the silver lid. I tried to make sure it was dry as much as possibly but it was quite prominent on the kettle which I thought was really bad for such an expensive item. It didn't affect the function of the kettle but it didn't look very nice either. The rust spread a little to near the spout just before I got rid of the kettle after I moved house. I didn't want to throw it out but I wasn't going to give away a kettle that's rusty so I had to bin it. I thought it was a terrible shame and a bit of a waste of money but it was rusty and no longer matched my new kitchen anyway.
Overall, this isn't a really bad kettle. It's also not a kettle worth £79.99. There are other red kettles available from Electrical shops and Argos at much lower prices that will do the exact same job. I think you're just paying for the name with this kettle which didn't really offer any better quality. I wouldn't really recommend it, I'd recommend you save your money and buy one for half the price that'll do a similar job.
Summary: Overpriced kettle.
