INTRODUCTION
After moving into my house in 2006 me and my husband have had an on going project, the installation of a new kitchen. To save money we did all of the work our selves but after two and a half years we have only just completed it.
Don't get me wrong I was not living in brick dust of anything like that, we just took time over tiling and putting the cooker hood up, so I am over joyed to say that every last detail is now completed.
I have put up with all of my old appliances for years as I didn't want to buy new and ruin them while were still doing to work, so a few weeks ago I went to curry's and bought every appliance I wanted new, these ranged from Kettles, Toasters, dish washers, washing machine, dryers and a huge fridge freezer.
You should have seen my hubby's face when I was saying to the sales person I will have that and that and yes I will have that. Well as I see it these taught my husband a lesson as he should have got the work done much quicker as I waited two and half years he was going to pay.
Well here I am stepping out of my comfort zone and I am going to review my new kettle, so if this review is not up to standard please don't be too critical. Although I have got a few appliances to review so some feed back would be good.
THE KETTLE
I purchased the Kenwood JK450 on first impressions this looked very stylish and light weight with a clear 1.7 litre jug and silver brushed base, handle and lid. So on first impressions this was purchased as soon as I laid eyes on it, but the best bits were actually yet to come.
This kettle has a clear jug that is cordless making it easier to fill it up and clean, the kettle is powered at the base with a 240V three pin plug. The kettle can take some getting used to as you have to make sure the components on the bottom of the kettle and the base are connected, they just slot into each other so it is very easy but can be tricky to master at first.
The jug is great as it has clear visibility so it makes it easy by letting you know exactly how much water is in the kettle, It also gives you the measurements in cups and litres on two separate markings one straight across and the other on a slant, so you can seen when it is on the base and even as you are filling the kettle at the tap. The slanted measure took me a while to work out at first, it was only as I was filling a realized it was slanted to save you very filling it at the tap, so therefore I am now saving water by not over filling it and I am saving energy at the same time.
This is advertised as an Energy sense kettle and I have to agree with this statement as it saves water and it consists of and newly improved energy saving element that saves up to 35% more energy than any other kettle. I cant say I have noticed a difference in my energy bill as I have only had this a few weeks so I will have to wait and see, but I can not see it making that much difference as I have not gone energy efficient with anything else as of yet.
PRICE
I got this on sale for 34.99 from Curry's, so you can buy it in store or online at www.currys.com.
The kettle comes in white or silver, I personally found that the white one looked a bit tacky but the silver look more expensive and better finished, plus I was going silver in the kitchen so this worked well for me.
This has a boxed weight of 1.8 KG and is packaged in a fully recyclable box that did not contain any colours of pictures, which I found strange but when I opened it the kettle was wrapped in a re-useable cord tie cotton protective bag.
My question being why would you need a cotton bag to protect your kettle once it is out and being used that is it surly you will never store it in the bag again, I must say the cotton bag has become handy I now use it to put the Dogs toys in when we go to the beach as it washes really well.
MY OPINION
I can't count how many hours I have stood and watched the kettle boiling, thanks to the clear jug. I find it very relaxing watching the bubbles begin to boil up and bubble away, if I had my way I would keep boiling it just to watch but that is not very energy efficient is it.
Over all I am very happy, I have a kettle that gives me hot water and I can relax at the same time, I would recommend this just for relaxation purposes alone but it is a genuine great all rounder kettle that does the job and saves a bit of money on water and electric bills.
Some may think that 34.99 is a little bit expensive for a kettle when you can buy a good one from Tesco for under ten pounds, but this comes with a years warranty and it really does look the part.
