I purchased this kettle from Hughes Direct for £28.99. I did research beforehand on Which as I wanted a decent kettle but did not want to spend more than £40 which you can easily do.
The kettle is a sleek attractive design without being overly styled, which I felt a lot of kettles were. I just want a non ugly kettle to use for boiling water not a design piece to make a statement about my kitchen/ life! It is fairly compact so does not take up too much space. The handle is large enough to hold comfortably and has a rubber coating to aid grip and make it more comfortable to lift and use.
There is an easy to read gauge on the side measured in 'cups'. This is only on the side you would see if you held the kettle in your right hand so you might find this annoying if you are left handed. This kettle advertises itself as an 'eco' option but this seems to just mean that you can boil only a single cup of water, rather than that it actually uses less electricity to boil the water you put in. This feature seems more common now so I don't think it is quite as special as it claims. I have found that if you literally just fill it to the one cup level it isn't quite enough for a standard sized mug so you have to add a bit extra.
Inside the kettle has a concealed element which means you can boil less water and makes it easier to descale. After a years use in a hard water area I still had not had to descale it, although it is not in heavy use. The limescale filter in the spout fits closely and works well at catching bits of limescale so they don't go in your drinks. It can be easily slid out for cleaning. The spout makes it easy to pour the water without it spilling.
In use the kettle is very noisy so you might want to bear this in mind if you will be using it a lot. You can't hear the radio or TV whilst it is boiling. It also seems to take several seconds to cut out after the water has boiled which presumably uses unnecessary power so if you are there you can switch it off manually.
The lid pops up easily using a button on the handle which makes it easy to fill. However, after 13 months use the lid broke so that it could not be lifted at all which rendered the kettle useless. Fortunately the service from Hughes Direct was excellent and they agreed to replace the kettle which any other one from their website up to the same cost. They collect the old kettle and delivered the new one by courier for free.
I was very happy with this kettle until I had to replace it. I may have just been unlucky or the lid may be poorly designed so that it is likely to break long before you would expect it to.
PS Why do I have to rate a kettle's sound and picture quality? Surely Dooyoo could reprogramme to allow a not applicable option!
If you are looking for a reasonable kettle that is pretty cheap and reliable then the kenwood is your product.
My wife and I purchased this kettle from Argos about a year ago now and as the Kettle is in use at least 10 times aday appears to work without issue.
This really is a no-fuss kettle that boils water very quickly, manages to keep the water hot whilst standing, and doesn't drip when pouring the water.
The kettle comes in a number of colours but at the time we purchased the slightly off white version.
The kettle is cordless which works well in our kitchen however the switch althought we have no issues on the surface appear to be the weak point of the product and overtime i can see this might break.
The kettle when full is quite heavy and i wouldn't recommend his kettle if you are trying to get children involved more in the kitchen.
My only issue is that the ower cord is short so we are limited because of availability of plugs within the kitchen when to sit the kettle.
The kettle works really well and even after a year of bashing and operation just works.
The best thing about this kettle is that its reasonably priced and the build quality is good apart from the switch but even this hasn't failed yet.
I would recommend this product to anyone looking to replace there existing kettle or maybe to use as a spare
My office kettle gave up last year, so my officemate and I decided to go halves on a new one. We use a kettle multiple times a day, so it's an investment and neither of us could do without our coffee! So, one evening after work I went to the large Sainsbury's I pass on the way home to check out their homeware section.
My colleague and I decided that we would spend up to £30 for a kettle, £15 each and for this I wanted to get a good brand which is cordless, with a mesh filter for trapping limescale and to able to make at least 6 cups at a time. We need a cordless kettle as I have to take it to a nearby sink to fill up and a cordless with a stand is more convenient than having to keep putting the plug in and out. The water in the area is hard and full of limescale so a mesh is good for trapping it, which it does very successful and now and again we need to pull the filter out and empty out the slithers of limescale. We need a larger kettle as sometimes we have meeting so make tea/coffee for up to about 6 people at a time.
This one caught my eye on the shelf in the supermarket because it is quick boil and has a concealed element which also makes cleaner it a lot easier, plus it fitted our criteria above. It was one of the cheaper kettles of this size in a well known brand there too at £27.95, although there were cheaper kettles which looked less good quality.
How does it work?
I am really pleased with this kettle, it boils very quickly perhaps 40 seconds for 2 mugs worth, a little longer the more water you have in. I like that you can see through the window how much water you have in and also see the water boiling. There are two windows, one on each side of the kettle so you can place the kettle on the surface to either side. The lid is easy to open, it flips up on pressing the button on the handle or pulling the button on the lid and is attached which is really convenient. To turn the kettle on you just flip the switch below the handle which is nice an easy and there is an illuminated indicator which shows when it is on.
The kettle is white and light grey plastic and I think it looks quite sleek. It's easy to wipe clean, which I often have to do as it seems to end up with splashes of tea and coffee over it. This is a good kettle for people who need lightweight thinks because of wrist etc problems as it is very light indeed without water in it. The kettle feels and looks sturdy and good quality.
I am really pleased we spent the extra few pounds a got a good quality, well known brand kettle as it has really paid off in the long run. The kettle anyway saves us loads of money compared to keep going out to buy tea/coffee as a take-out, but also saves lots of time! I think the best feature about this kettle is that it boils so quickly, but it's also nicely designed and easy to clean too. 5 out of 5 from me!
