We go through kettles quite quickly in our house. Our last one was a see through one which looked great until you used it for the first time and then it just showed all the limescale up and in the end starting to spill boiling water all over the counter top so we knew it was time for another one.
So, off we went to Curry's in search of another. Now, being a girl, colour is very important to me. When somebody buys a new car my first question is not how many horsepower does it have or how many miles to the gallon does it get but what colour is it and so it's no wonder that I bought this kettle purely because it had the nicest colour and we different than the regular boring silver or white ones.
This kettle is part of the Kenwood Metallics range and ok, it is a Kenwood which we have had before and I know they are good manufacturers of kettles so that was also part of the decision too. The colour of this kettle is called Antique Bronze and it's absolutely gorgeous and shiny and a lovely sparkly brown colour. It looks so different than other kettles on the market and this is why I was so attracted to it. It has a really nice shape to it too, its almost shaped like a bullet as it's quite rounded at the top and just looks really sleek and stylish in my opinion. Actually, according to the paperwork on this kettle the metallic finish does have benefits other than looking nice, it offers a clean, anti smear finish and a tough skin and so far this kettle has kept really nice and clean looking and doesn't get as many fingerprints as other kettles we have used do.
The kettle costs us £49.99 which was mid-range priced from all the kettles that had for sale in Curry's and I thought this was quite a good price. We could have bought Curry's protection on the kettle for a year for £10 but I never buy this as I think its a waste of money but it's there if you need it.
Ok, so now I guess you probably want to know how it performs as an actual kettle?! Well the Kettle comes with something called a eco-fill which I've never actually had in a kettle before but its a very good idea and is good for the environment. Basically its a blue plastic insert that sits in the top of the kettle and it tells you when you fill it to the top with water that you have just enough water for one cup of tea so you are boiling less water for less time, thus not using as much energy as you usually would to boil a kettle. This is good but if you want to fill a kettle quickly this part often overflows and can be a bit annoying but it is a good feature.
The top of the kettle is well designed in my opinion too. There is a little button you press to flip the lid open in order to fill it but if you touch the top of the kettle the metal can be quite hot. This is why they have put a little plastic finger pad so you do not burn your fingers, this is such a good idea and I use this all the time when I boil another kettle straight after boiling the first one if we have lots of guests.
The side of the kettle has a water level window with the cups going up in 2's so you can see how far you have filled it which is nice. The kettle has a capacity of 1.6 litres which is perfectly fine for what I need it for. The little lever that you press down to turn on the kettle lights up whilst it is boiling and goes off when it is done which is a good indicator to tell you when the kettle is done.
The kettle features a filter at the front by the spout and when I have green tea or something without milk in it I notice that there is not too much film floating in it so I definitely think the filter performs well. The spout is brilliant and makes it very easy to pour the water out of it. This kettle never spills which is great although the water does come out quite quickly in my opinion so you do need to watch it.
The kettle sits on a 360 degree base so you can put it down on this however you like and the cord to the kettle winds itself inside so you don't have a long chord hanging out on your counter side.
This is a great performing kettle that looks amazing and is one I recommend.
