I bought this kettle about 6 months ago from Tesco's and have been very happy with it to date.
This kettle appealed to me to be honest, because of the trendy style. I liked the chrome effect which matched the theme in my new kitchen.
The Kenwood SJM280 cost approximately £25, which I think is a good price and makes this kettle score high in my opinion in relation to value for money.
Although I bought the chrome version, the kettle also comes in black. The flip lid shuts easily and securely which makes it simple to pour boiling water without having to worry that it may spill out.
This kettle does require slightly more electricity as it boils water faster than the standard kettle, but this is not significantly more. As with many kettles, it holds a decent amount of water at 1.7 litres a time. You can probably get around 5 cups of tea out of it when filled up to to the maximum level.
As with all new kettles, it is a good idea to wash it out and boil it once before using, for hygiene purposes. The kettle is transparent around the back of the kettle, which is very helpful in identifying how full the kettle is. The kettle comes with it's own instruction book (if you feel you need it!) and is conveniently alreasy wired to the plug so you can just take it out of the packaging and begin to use immediately.
The kettle comes well packed into a box and has an instruction leaflet with it, the plug is already fitted so you don't have to worry about wiring it up.
Overall, I am impressed with this kettle. It is not too noisy, stylish and well designed at a reasonable price. It also comes with a warranty. I would recommend.
