Advantages: Works quickly and nice design
Disadvantages: High power rating
Every household needs a kettle. It's one of those electrical goods that have so many uses that you only miss the worth of it when it breaks down, and you suddenly found that you have to rush to a nearby currys or a supermarket to get your daily intake of coffee/tea/hot chocolate. This is exactly what happened to me, which had led me to buy this product. Since my old kettle broke down, I didn't have much time to browse through all the brands available and since Kenwood kettles are on offer, I decided to go with it. The model is Kenwood SJM280 and is retailed for around £ 25.00 at the moment and can be found online.
I'd like to start off with the design. The main colour is silver with black complement. The design is very slick and contemporary; it has a minimalist feel to it. I'm not particularly bothered with the design and I think the colour scheme and the design is done so that it will match with most kitchen. Since my kitchen has grey/black finish to it, it goes with the whole colour scheme. The base is fully turnable, i.e. when you put the kettle down, you don't have to worry about place it in the right orientation. In that sense, it's very user friendly. The handle is a good shape and is insulated so that the user is protected from the heat given off by the kettle. The lid has a click lock so you don't have to worry about wayward steam escaping from it and accidentally burning your fingers.
As for its performance, the kettle has the 1.7 litres capacity, which is very good for a medium sized family or if you're cooking a stew for a large group. The kettle also has a transparent window markers that enables you to judge the volume of water you want to boil, which I think is very handy. The kettle has 3 kW power rating which I believe is quite a lot for a normal sized kettle like this one; in this aspects, the kettle isn't very green. However, one advantage of this high power wattage is that it works really fast. I usually boil water to make a cup of tea or coffee so I fill it up to about 1.5 cup mark (approximately by my eyes) and the water is ready within less than a minute. Very efficient time-wise.
Note that the spout also has a filter which is very good in terms of designing and user friendliness. I tend to use water straight from the tap so it works well for me. Also, the kettle isn't overly quiet as it does make some noise. However, since it boils water very quickly, the noise isn't disturbing in that sense.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase despite having less time to compare the different brands available on the markets. I think this is a worthwhile purchase and the kettle has been doing a good job so far, so I'm pleased with the product. I've had it for about 3 months now, so I'll have to see how it'll work in the long run.
Thank you for reading. :) x
