Boil me over, this kettle is great!
Member Name: Wickedinrock
Advantages: Boils quickly, looks attractive, good price
Disadvantages: Only available from Dixons, Currys and PC World
Last year ago my mum returned something to Curry's and gave me the £15 credit note as there was nothing she needed to buy. I completely forgot about it until a few months ago when I realised that it was going to expire! I took it to a big Curry's on a local retail park and had a look around. I fancied buying a blender and knew that my kettle and toaster could both do with replacing although neither were desperate for an upgrade. I drink so many cups of tea that the kettle is the most used appliance in our kitchen by a long way so the idea of getting a new more attractive model made a lot of sense.
We finally decided on the LOGIK L17KBS10 Cordless Jug Kettle in black & stainless steel. It was £14.99 so we wouldn't have to add any money and it was definitely one of the more attractive models.
--- What it looks like ---
The kettle is black and shiny which instantly appealed to me as my old one was white and starting to look discoloured. The kettle is cordless (which I assumed, incorrectly, meant that it didn't have a plug!) and very modern looking. It sits on a lightweight rotating 360 degree black base which makes it easy to handle for both left and right-handers. It is shaped in a cylinder and almost looks like a big jug and has a 1.7 litre capacity. A clear measuring water window lights up on the front and shows how full the kettle is which and the switch to turn it on is at the bottom of the back of the kettle. The best thing for me about this kettle is the lid. There is a button on the top that flips the lid open so that you can fill it up with water. You then just click it back into place. The lid is what I immediately liked about the kettle when I spotted it - it has a silver edge but then the rest is clear plastic so you can see right into the kettle and see the water boiling away and the blue lights give a lovely effect. The spout has a removable filter which I clean quite regularly to prevent limescale build up.
--- Using the kettle ---
The kettle is plugged in at the wall and you flick down the black switch near the bottom of the kettle to turn it on. It boils water very quickly due to the rapid boil element and is certainly the quickest of the kettles that I've owned! The lid is very easy to use - it flips open when you press a button and then you close it manually. The handle is comfortable to hold and unlike the kettles we have at work, it pours neatly and scorching water does not stream down your arm as you try to fill up your mug! The kettle also has a keep-warm function that maintains water temperature if you get distracted or need to come back for more water later.
--- Price and availability ---
Logik is a brand of consumer electronics owned by Dixon's PLC which operates Currys, PC World and Dixons as well as other brands such as Pixmania and Advent Computers. I paid £14.99 for the kettle in Currys which I think is excellent value. The only problem with trying to purchase one of these kettles is that they are only available in Currys, PC World and Dixons, however it's unlikely this will cause a problem as these shops are wide spread and likely to be in many town/city centres and on retail parks.
The kettle was on special offer when I purchased it but is still priced at its regularly price of £19.99 in all of these shops and on their websites.
--- Overall ---
We have now had this kettle for four months and consider it to be a super investment for our kitchen. It was £14.99 which I think is a bargain price for such an attractive addition to the kitchen and something that we use almost constantly and I would have been happy to have paid full price. I can't think of anything wrong with the kettle but I still can't give it all 5 stars because it's a kettle - nothing special!
Summary: A super kettle for a great price!
