Advantages: Good build quality
Disadvantages: Stays hot for a long time
This is my current kettle, the one that doesn't leak! And straight away that's the thing with Morphy Richards, the build quality. I have boiled hundreds, if not thousands of cups of hot drinks with this and it's tight as a drum. No leaks, no cracks, and the seal around the lid is superb. I do get some hot condensation appear on the top, but I have experienced this before.
For heating, it normally takes a good two and a half minutes to boil 4 cups, which for me is about 1 litre. It does boil fast which means it gets quite noisy and fast, so for noise it's another one of those "ok but not great" kettles, which really matters when your doing baby bottles late at night when the kids are asleep. Bear this in mind if you have children.
Safety was another concern when I bought this kettle, and I don't think it scores top marks here, for instance, the time it takes to cool down on the outside is about 3 maybe 4 minutes, and there is no way to protect the children from the kettle apart from it being on a high shelf, but for the money I didn't expect it to either. (it was £30 in the sale)
However it does have a short mains power cord, for safety that's good, for practicality, not so good, as it has to go right in the corner by the sockets, bit of a hassle if you don't want extension blocks everywhere. It has a 360 degrees base for convenience too, which is handy when you don't have time to faff around looking for the hole.
It has boil dry protection which I have used on many occasions, when accidentally under filling it, then there is no water left. It's a very handy feature that saves you a replacement kettle and so far, it's worked every single time, and it's got to be about 20 times I've done that now.
Overall, it's an all-in-one bargain kettle and worth the money. I would recommend Morphy Richards generally if you need a bigger or better kettle than this one, it's got a warranty and I can bet money I'm never going to use it!
Summary: Good value for money kettle
