Advantages: looks good, works fine
Disadvantages: no indicator light
At work we have just got a kettle into our own office as after years of wasting money in our vending machine, we have all decided that a kettle may just save us all a lot of money and we would also have nicer drinks. So, just in time for the colder months I was in charge to choose us a decent kettle. I had been looking online for any good deals as we didn't want one too cheap but a decent brand that would last a good while and so coming across this Morphy Richards model, it looked stylish and seemed to offer just about enough for me.
This kettle is all stainless steel and on the side has an oval window to see how much water is left in the kettle and it shows the water level and how many cups of tea this serves. The handle and lid are black plastic but the body metallic with the Morphy Richards logo shown on the side. It is sat on a black plastic stand also and the switch to flick it on is black too. The measurements of this kettle are 10cm x 10cm x 10cm and in weight it is 1.8kg that is boxed though. In the box you get the base, the kettle, the lid and the instruction book but I didn't read this.
MORPHY RICHARDS 43026
To start with I took the kettle out of the box and to pick it up, it really wasn't too heavy at all but was quite average. This kettle has a capacity of 1.5L or 6 cups which is quite standard. The cord isn't the longest with this kettle but this doesn't matter in our office anyway, the kettle sits on a 360 degree base which is great as you can put it back knowing it will always sit perfectly and move around so it is handy to have. The kettle also has a window which is easy to see the water levels so that you know when you need to fill this up.
So, to begin boiling, this kettle the switch to pop the lid up is a bit awkward compared to the one I have at home which has the switch at the handle within thumb read. You push it in on the lid but kind of have to curve your hand and then it pops up and is easy to fill. I think this could have been done a bit more conveniently, once the kettle is full you put it on the base and the switch is just a push down switch, there are no lights that let you know this is on but it does start to boil quite quickly and you can hear it going.
It isn't the quietest kettle when it is boiling but it does boil quite quickly which I like about this. It is very hot but the handle is easy to hold, there are no grips or grooves but this is fine as the handle remains cool after boiling. There is a removable limescale filter on this kettle to help with cleaning to get rid of any and make sure you are always serving with a clean kettle. In terms of cleaning, this kettle is very easy to clean, with it being stainless steel fingerprints always show but a quick wipe over it will get it looking good.
When it comes to boiling with this kettle, if you have it full for the 6 cup maximum then it will take longer to boil but I find this is quick and it always boils water effectively. I never have had any issues with this so far, it is not too big and the shape is quite nice and very modern looking. This kettle comes with a 3kW rapid boil element which is quite good and also a cord storage. I noticed on Amazon people complaining that water had a plastic taste with this but I definitely haven't had that problem.
I do like this kettle, I wouldn't give it full marks though as I do notice flaws, I would prefer a handle with a better grip on it as most modern models offer this, I also feel some kind of indication light is necessary for the user to see that the kettle has gone on and is working right. Lastly, the button to pop the lid open could be a bit easier to get to but other than these flaws it still is good. Luckily, this is for my office and I'd recommend it for that but for my home I am glad this is not the one I have.
This kettle is available to buy from Amazon where they are currently selling this model for £28.49 with free delivery which isn't bad.
