= = = = = = The Price = = = = = = I purchased this Philips HD4644 Energy Efficient Kettle from Asda for £24.96. It is widely available from most well known supermarkets and online stores, such as Amazon which are selling it this kettle for £23.99, Currys are selling it for £27, Argos £27.94. Similar prices are also found at Very.co.uk and Dunelm etc. The overall price is quite reasonable in my opinion, plus being energy efficient and positively reviewed by a number of sources I decided it was the one for me. = = = = = = = = Specifications = = = = = = = = * 1.7 litre capacity with a one-cup water indicator that allows you to boil only the water you need * Double action filter for clear water and a cleaner kettle * Flat heating element for fast boiling and easy cleaning * Save up to 66% energy compared to a regular kettle * The light on the button will switch off when the water has boiled = = = = = = The Design = = = = = = The Kettle is made from hard plastic material, and has a nice white glossy finish. It has grey and sliver colours boarding the handle and top and bottom of the kettle which gives it a nice stylish appearance. It has a curvy open spout and a click and close lid at the top, as well as a long sturdy handle that is located at the right top side of the kettle. Just below the kettle is the on and off push switch. The kettle has a 1.7 Litre capacity which is measured using a transparent measuring gauge located at the front centre of the kettle which is shaped like a large see through thermometer. The measuring levels are indicated by cup symbols and number next the each cup indicating how much water is required to fill a certain number of cups. The kettle is cordless and instead the power lead is connected to the base. = = = = = = = Experience = = = = = = = Size & Weight ************ The kettle is nice and compact in size measuring approx 15.2 x 15.2 x 7.6 cm which enables it to fits on our kitchen worktop easily without taking up much room, It is also lightweight weighing 136 g which makes it easy enough to hold with just one hand, even when filled to 1.7 Litre capacity. The handle is large and positioned on the sides tops half of the kettle which I find makes it easy to lift up when filled with water, and the shape of the handle is also designed well so a good secure grip can be formed. Preparing the Kettle ***************** The water is filled by removing the top plastic lid, this is simple to do and just requires a pressing of the lid button. It can also be filled through the spout, however I find it easier to fill through the opening at the top once lid is removed as you can fill it up much faster that way. Once the filled kettle is powered on by pushing the on black switch located at the bottom of right side of the kettle, it is easy to know when the kettle is switched on due the light indicator. The kettle is noisy, and sounds like most kettles when they are boiling water, but it is nothing to complain about really as it what I would expect from any kettle to be honest. Excellent Measuring System *********************** The kettle has a very clear measuring gauge located at the front of the kettle, which measures the quantity of water by cup sizes rather than ml which I personally find it a lot easier to work out exactly how much water I would need for certain amount of cups. The cup sizes are printed on the front clearly in white symbols with numbers next to each cup, so it is very easy to understand and work out the measurements. The transparent gauge also allows easy viewing of the water levels, so I no exactly how much water is left in the kettle and how many cups it can fill. What I really like about this kettle is the one cup indicator is that is allows me to only boil the amount of water needed, and therefore apparently saves me 66% on my energy bills! This is excellent, as we can always do with saving some money when ever we can. I find that the measuring system works very well, for example the level of water with the cup symbols does in fact provide the exact amount needed for two cups of tea or coffee etc. Therefore it is very precise from my experience and a very handy tool indeed. How Quickly It Boils Water ********************* The kettle has a flat heating element which I found enables the water to boil quite quickly, and takes around 1 minute to boil a full kettle, which is a lot faster than our older one which would take at least 3 minutes to fully boil. Once the water is boiled the kettle is very easy to lift out off the base using the 360 degree connector base, which means it can easily be swivelled off and easy to pour out as there are no wires to restrict movement or getting in the way. The cord is instead is wrapped around the base of the kettle allowing any excess wire to be hidden away, leaving the kettle area looking neat and tidy. The kettle is quite light to hold, making it easy to pour into cups from its open spout. I have never experienced any unnecessary spillage occurring, as the spout opening is well designed so that the water pouring is easily controlled. The water is as hot as you would expect it to be, it is boiling hot and makes great hot drinks. It has double action water filter built into the kettle, which ensures clearer water and also helps keep the kettle cleaner from the inside. This is great as we do not own any separate water filters, so having this fitted in our kettle is excellent bonus. The kettle is easy to keep clean, and due to the plastic finish it doesn't easy develop scratches or marks. The double action filter also keeps the inside clean so you don't have to keep cleaning the kettle which can be a bit of hassle. = = = = = = Conclusion = = = = = = Overall this is a great kettle that boils water fast and efficiently and has a very precise and easy to understand measuring system. It is also reasonably priced and comes with a double action water filter inbuilt and saves you money on energy bills, what is there not to like about this kettle...nothing! Top marks from me 5/5.
