Disadvantages: Leaks, heater goes wrong fast,
I saw this product and I thought I had to review it - warn others about this seriously dangerous piece of kit! It does leak yes, but there's a bit more to it. I first bought this kettle two years ago and it lasted less than 6 months before I ended up throwing it due to the number of serious mechanical faults. I have known Phillips to be an unreliable brand in my experience and this just proves it.
The first fault was leaking around the top, sides and around the handle when I first bought the kettle. To test run it I filled it to the top, boiled it and as it began to bubble up the hot waters tarted spewing out the sides leaving a nice puddle for me to clean up at the end. Not to mention the risk of burn touching the side of the kettle where the water had been. When I looked t the kettle it had lost a good few hundred millimetres in about a minute and a half. There were several gaps and I can not even begin to say how shocked I was that they let this product out on the market.
At the time I didn't have the money to get another, so I put up with it for 6 months, and during this time, things only got worse. The next thing was the heater started to go. Where before the kettle took a couple minutes to boil 700ml it now took half as long again even with less water sometimes, and eventually it took a full 4 minutes before the water would get near boiling temperature. Not good considering I was making baby bottles at the time, and I needed the water to stay in and boil fast.
After a couple weeks i tried using tape to cover up the holes but no matter how much i used, it wouldn't stop. Over time the cracks got worse and bigger and eventually it was no use, the heater had nearly gone, and the cracks were too big. I threw it away.
It was a good price but I'm sorry, I recommend paying more for a kettle that lasts longer, it will save you a ton of money in the long run.
Summary: It's a kettle that doesnt retain water, and doesnt boil water. So it's not a kettle.
