Advantages: attractive design

Disadvantages: useless electrics

I bought this kettle four years ago as principally it fitted with a chrome-finished kitchen I had. Although design-wise the kettle is clean with a retro feel, on a practical level it turned out to be unsatisfactory. After two years it stopped working and Comet, where I bought it from, were naturally uninterested. I also received short shrift from Russel Hobbs themselves. Nothing 'blew' as such but one day the electrics ceased to function and kettles have sealed electrical units that you can't attempt to fix yourself.

I live in a heavy limescale area too and the amount of crusty scale that accumulated on the open spout was off-putting. Scale also accumulated on the separate base and around the lid at the top. This is not the fault of the kettle manufacturer of course but seeing limescale so visibly on three areas of the kettle is not pleasant and is difficult to remove.

I decided not to buy a Russell Hobbs kettle again and certainly not this appealing but impractical design.

Summary: not robust enough even if it's a handsome design
