Advantages: Traditional looking
Disadvantages: Stiff lid after awhile
I got this kettle a few months ago from Argos at 49.99. Being a Russell Hobbs it is available in shops such as Lakeland and most department store kitchenware sections but I had a £10 gift voucher and wanted a classical looking kettle after using the type of kettle that requires sitting on the hob and whistling off to tell me when the kettle was boiled.
On opening the indecently large box (too much packaging as usual with polysterene which my cat likes to fight with) the kettle looked beautiful. All of my kitchenware is chrome and I wanted a reminiscent shape of the one I recently got rid of. It is a circular pyramid shape with a large cast plastic handle on the side. There is of course a gauge on the side so you can determine the level of water in your kettle also, and there is a filter in the spout so limescale does not find its way into your tea, as with most modern kettles. Because it looks so much like my old one, I almost put the kettle on the hob as its what I am used to!
Don't do that! Its got a plastic base to be placed onto a plastic dock which has a wire for a plug socket as this is an electric kettle with a hob kettle style.
The kettle is easily used, just fill up, flip the step switch at the bottom and place on base. Simple. However my only complaint is that after about 2 months of using, lifting the lid off at the top is getting stiffer and stiffer due to limescale so I fill up my kettle via the spout now....
The kettle does not whistle like the old school one I had, but it does bubble and steam quite loudly and you can barely hear the "click" of the switch to know its done, but the kettle is incredibly quick so its not a massive issue.
Summary: The electric equivalent of an old style
