I am quite fond of Russell Hobbs as a brand and it is one of the first I consider when looking for kitchen appliances.
That, coupled with the fact that i loved the design of this kettle, led me to buy it from Argos for £20 nearly two years ago.
The kettle I have is black in colour. The design is sleek, modern and contemporary. It is made of plastic and is very light weight. The design also means that it is very easy to handle, much better than my previous one which was of the traditional type with the handle on top. The spout opens at the very top of the kettle, i feel this adds to the safety of the kettle and you are unlikely to accidentally spill boiling water on to your hand.
There is a mesh on the inside of the spout, which limits boiling water pouring out at a quick pace.
The ketttle sits on a detachable base. There is no fiddling about at all, you just simply place the the kettle on the base and this completes the circuit. There is a raised central bit on the base, that fits snugly on to the bottom of the kettle; this is the electrical connection between the kettle and the base.
The wire and plug is attached to the base, this means that you only have to carry the kettle over to the faucet to fill it, not the wire and plug as well and risk getting it wet.
The switch on the side goes down with a soft click and a blue glow can be seen in the transparent area when the kettle switches on. After the water boils, the kettle switches off automatically and the blue light goes off as well. This means that you can tell whether the kettle is on just by looking at it.
The kettle opens on top by pressing a button on the handle.
This kettle is very quick and efficient, especially if you are only boiling small quantities of water. Less than one litre of water boils in under two minutes; perfect for people like me as I need a cup of tea soon as I open my eyes in the morning. Even at maximum capacity, it takes less than four minutes to boil.
The problem I have with the kettle is that because it is deep and the opening rather small, it is impossible to thoroughly clean the inside when the limescale builds up, as it invariably does. I have to be content with cleaning with vinegar and bicarbonate. The only other problem I have is that the wire is a little too short for my preference.
The fact that I have had this kettle for two years speaks for itself, I think.
Even with two years of daily use and limescale, the kettle is in perfect working order, and I am yet to have an accident or spillage with it.
I am perfectly happy to recommend this product to anyone.
