When my kettle stopped working recently, I headed into Argos looking for an inexpensive replacement. I chose this Russell Hobbs kettle in cream, which was only 27.49GBP. I already have a Russell Hobbs toaster and have been fairly pleased with that, and it seemed like a reliable brand for a reasonable price.
This is a solid little kettle which weighs a bit more than you'd expect, as it has a metallic inner which I believe is made from aluminium. My old kettle had a plastic jug so I was initially surprised by how heavy and solid this one felt in comparison.
The kettle has a 1.7 litre capacity. One thing that has disappointed me is that you seem to need to fill it with a fair quantity of water before it will boil. As I often work from home and boil the kettle for one cup of tea at a time, it seems wasteful to me to have to boil twice as much water as I need, and this bothers me a bit.
The kettle is also a bit fiddly to fill, as you have to open the lid by lifting a little tab and pulling the lid upwards, and the lid often doesn't stay open. As the body of the kettle becomes very hot when it boils, it can be tricky if you want to use it again straight away, as you have to hold the lid open while trying not to burn your fingers on the outer part of the kettle.
That said, this is a sturdy kettle which boils quickly, and I like the fact that it has a round base (unlike my previous kettle, which had a certain shape and had to be fitted carefully to its base). The kettle has a smart enough appearance, is from a reputable brand and comes with a guarantee. I just won't be heartbroken when the time comes to replace this one!
When I moved into my first home I desperately needed a new kettle, I shopped around for quite a while looking for a stylish inexpensive model and finally decided on this Russell Hobbs number.
Russell Hobbs is best known for kitchen products and as a trusted brand I was happy to purchase a Russell Hobbs kettle. Russell Hobbs products are sold at many different retailers, however I chose to purchase my kettle through Amazon as it not only offered the kettle at a great price, but Amazon also offer multi product deals. I bought Russell Hobbs toaster from the same range and Amazon gave me money off because I purchased two products. This is brilliant if you are setting up home for the first time and need a lot of new equipment.
The RRP of the kettle is £34.99 which is mid to high range for a kettle, I would recommend shopping around as I bought this kettle from Amazon for £29.99 saving myself £5. As mentioned previously Amazon will also give you money off if you buy more than one product in the range. I was hoping to pay no more than £25 for my kettle, however for the price this was one of the most stylish kettles I could find.
This kettle is part of the Russell Hobbs colours range, I purchased my kettle in cream as it was the colour I liked best and the one that suited my kitchen the most. Aside from cream other colours within the line include black, red, purple and storm grey. I must admit i do find the choice of colours slightly strange, black, cream and grey are fairly obvious, but purple and red are an odd choice especially when there is no blue or pastel colours available.
The kettle has a very simple, modern look, the main body is a cream colour with a metal base, lid and spout. The open handle is made of black plastic making pouring easy and also allowing you to touch the kettle when hot. The kettle has a 1.7litre capacity and 3kw concealed element. I find this capacity more than enough for us, the kettle handily has a water fill indicator on the side so that you can see how much you are filling the kettle up. This saves water as I will only fill the kettle up as much as I need to and prevents overfilling.
Living in a hard water area the fact this kettle has a removable washable limescale filter is great, I haven't had to remove the filter yet, but it seems easy enough to remove and I'm sure given time I will need remove and wash this part.
This kettle boils quickly which is great if you are in a rush. I don't notice this kettle being noisier than any other kettle i have used. As the kettle has a painted surface it does become quite hot after use so you have to be sure to only touch the plastic handle, rather than the main body of the kettle when using.
This is a great, sturdy kettle. It has all the factors I want in a kettle: stylish, inexpensive, water fill indicator. I am really thrilled with my purchase and it looks great in my kitchen with the matching toaster.
