Swan Sk1350 Kettle.......
Member Name: MEL0611
Advantages: Easy and safe to use, well designed, good feature with the glowing blue light, good capacity
Disadvantages: Some maybe put off by the filter not being in the kettle permanently
I was tasked with getting a new kettle for the office at work. We had been using a kettle that was form Argos I believe for about a year, just a very basic model and when we went to switch it on one day it simply refused to boil. There are only 4 of us in the office and it was never on the go constantly but after a year it was no more. Being in charge of Petty cash in the office I was left to go and purchase a new one. I was allowed to spend up to £25.00 on the kettle which was quite generous seeing as my previous budget was £10.00 less! I did a quick scour of the internet and decided upon ordering the Swan SK1350. Here are my thoughts on the kettle.
The kettle was purchased from the Amazon website, it was easier to have the delivery straight to work and it arrived within 4 days. The kettle is available from the Argos store but there were none in stock at my local store. There was not much on the price between my two options; the kettle will cost you £19.00 so I was within my budget of the £25.00 and pleased at the price. I am not that familiar with the Swan brand but I have seen it around when looking for other electrical products.
The kettle came well packaged and it came with a one year manufacturer's guarantee as well as an instruction booklet. The kettle is made from a stainless steel finish and comes with a black base. It is the base that allows you to plug the base into the mains and get the kettle working. The kettle works off 1.8kw of power and I found there was a good amount of electrical lead to plug into the mains (about 80cm) and if there was an excess you can pin it into the base.
The kettle has a capacity of 1.7 litres so this was perfectly adequate for the needs of the office. The base is not slippy at all so it is secure when it is boiling. The kettle has a quiet boil to it and I found it to be very efficient when heating the water up. What was bright and vibrant was the kettle itself, it has a blue light on the top half of the kettle that will be a blue colour when the kettle is switched on and boiling the water, there is also a water capacity measure line. I think that the light up blue section is quite a good addition; it actually makes the kettle look a lot more expensive than the price I paid!
The kettle is quite lightweight so even when it is full of water, I still find it easy to hold and pour the water out. The kettle has a removable filter. I have never seen this in a kettle before and was a little bit unsure to start with but seeing as the water at work is terrible and the limescale and fuzz you get soon builds up, it is actually quite a handy feature to have on the kettle. The kettle is then said to give you better tasting water. I am not so sure about having better tasting water but I think the water tastes fine and the kettle certainly makes good drinks!
Overall, I have been really impressed with this kettle; it is reliable and has been serving the office really well. I hope that it will last for a long time. It is easy to lift and fill, the lift being really easy to open and will click when it is fully closed. It is handy to have the water gage and I love the additional feature of the glowing blue section when in use. Even though I was a little wary of the removal feature, I have found that we all regularly take it turns to remove it and wash it out so it is not much of a hassle.
4 out of 5 from me on this one
Thank you for reading
