With the amount of tea that we drink in our house, a good kettle is essential. The Tefal Delfina is a great kettle that is reliable and durable and does what is expected.
It has a 1.5 litre capacity and there is a window to check the water level. The kettle is cordless and sits on an oval base, however I have found that at times the kettle tends to stick to the base.
There is a hinged lid, which lifts to allow easily filling and locks back into place. There is non slip feet on the base, which work well as it doesn't slide around the worktop.
The spout on the kettle is quite wide, which can sometimes be a negative; if you grab a full kettle quickly on occasion the boiling water spills out the spout.
The on/off switch is integrated into the handle, which is quite thick for good grip.
It feels like the kettle takes a while to boil, but I'm not sure if that is specific to this model, as they say a watched kettle...
Overall it's a great kettle that performs well and is reasonably priced.
I was going to start this review with 'I've had this kettle for 6 years' but then I saw the other review about it and thought I should point out that I'm not copying it - I really did buy this kettle in 2005 as I remember it being my last year of university. My kettle at the time had packed up after just 2 years of use, so I thought that was the normal life for this sort of product.
The kettle itself is cordless but it sits on a base with a long cord attached to it. It comes with a filter in the lid and you fill the kettle through the spout at the top rather than opening the lid all the time - the lid can be opened but it's not really meant to be so it is a little tight to open. The minimum fill level is enough for a pot of tea, and it boils quickly. It can boil up to 1.5 litres and I've never had any problems with it, rarely had to clean it, and even now it's still going strong.
I'm a big tea drinker so a good kettle is important to me, and I think the Tefal Delfina is fantastic. I realise that I'm raving about a kettle, but I do really like a practical product that does what it's meant to and lasts a long time. I have moved house 4 or 5 times in the last 6 years and this kettle has transported just fine without being packed up too well.. I can't remember how much I paid for it back then but I was a student so it can't have been much as I was on a tight budget. To be honest I only realised recently just what a good buy it was, as I asked my husband how long we'd had it (so that I could review it) and he said - didn't you buy it in your final year of uni? And I said - blimey, yes I did! So there you go :)
Our Tefal Delfina Gold kettle has lasted six years and it is still going strong. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone especially those it hard water areas. It has a gold plated element and so even though we are in a hard water area we have never had to descale it. It now has a small amount of scale but that is good given that many kettles wouldn't last this long even with regular descaling. There is a clear window on the side so you can see the water level. However you have to be careful pouring it fast when full as the water does tend to come out of the sides of the spout and the hand on the handle can be susceptible to steam from the on / off button on the handle. Overall this kettle has lasted well as it is used quite often and so has proved excellent value for money.
