Advantages: Quick boiler, good pourer

Disadvantages: Lid pops open, hot outside

I chose this kettle at Tesco because it was the next one up from Tesco value (at our store anyway) at just under £18. It looks nice (it matches our toaster!) as it is brushed stainless steel (i.e. not shiny, but matte) with a blue illuminating window.

It boils very quickly and pours well - which is all I care about really! It is cordless and like most modern kettles, has a flat element, which is easier to descale. It has a rocking on/off switch on the handle which works fine, and a button on the lid which pops it open. The stainless steel is surprisingly easy to keep clean. It has a 1.7 L capacity, is 3KW and has a filter on the spout. As the spout isn't huge, and perhaps also because of the filter, it's not that easy to fill from the spout. However, the button on the lid makes it really easy to fill through the top.

The disadvantages I have found are: the lid can occasionally pop open - this will mean that the kettle won't stop boiling! I think if you make sure the lid is clicked down firmly before switching on that sorts the problem out. But I fear this might get worse as the kettle gets older and scalier. Also the outside of the kettle (the stainless steel) gets very hot. It is not safe to touch after the kettle has just boiled.

Overall, it's a pretty good product for its price.
