==Tesco TK 10 Traditional Kettle==
It seems I am not having much luck with appliances of late as they somehow seem to know we are trying to save all of our money for a house but insist on breaking so we are having to pay out for new items which is most frustrating. However our kettle we purchased recently was under guarantee and didn't exactly stop working, far from it, as it would keep boiling and boiling until I manually flicked the switch off which sometimes I wasn't able to do as soon as it boiled. Luckily I hadn't had it that long and I was able to take it back and get my money back.
I decided on getting a cheaper kettle than the last one, although that wasn't' particularly expensive, but managed to get this Tesco Traditional Kettle for a great price of £14 which meant I had around £6 in my pocket from my last kettle! There were plenty of these kettles in stock in my local Tesco Extra store and I expect because of its price and design that they keep it well stocked as it seems like quite a popular item.
The kettle itself looks very good and in design and is a cordless, dumpy brushes stainless steel metal. The black trim of the kettle works well against the brushed steel colourings and although I wanted a red kettle to go with my kitchen colour scheme I wasn't prepared to pay the price most red kettles retail for. This kettle has a long enough plug wire to reach from my chosen plug socket to the area which I keep my kettle and the excess is easily stored away under the base of the kettle and clipped in neatly.
The kettle holds a good amount of water at a 1.7 litre capacity but it is very rare I would fill it right up. The amount of water you fill into the kettle is easy to monitor as there is a very clear indicator at the back of the kettle which shows you per cup how much water is being put into the kettle. The only trouble with filling it up I would say it that the spout where the water both goes in and comes out is not great for filling up the kettle as it is rather smaller that I am used to and of course the lid on top does not come off particularly easy because of the large handle which goes over the top of the entire kettle. The small spout at the front does have a lime scale filter inside which I guess will slow the flow of water going into the kettle further but this does do a surprisingly good job at stopping any unwanted bits of loose scaly bits from the kettle.
The element is hidden inside the kettle so there is a smooth metal bottom to the jug kettle and I find this really easy to de scale although I have only done this once but it came up as good as new and with the de-scaling tablets I had it was done very fast and effectively.
The on off switch is located at the back side of the kettle and this is made of a clear plastic that illuminates yellow/orange type of colour when the kettle is boiling. The switch itself isn't especially
tough or hard wearing and I suspect this would be the first thing to break on the kettle although as yet I have had no problems with it.
The kettle seems to take a short amount of time to boil the water inside (obviously it takes longer the more you have in there) this would be because of the rapid boil feature that this kettle has which works really well and considering the price I paid I was surprised that this would actually boil rapidly as my last kettle (more expensive did boil quickly at all). The noise that this kettle makes is slightly less than my last kettle but still on the noisy side. I think that the fact that it boils quickly means the noise it makes is less noticeable in comparison to the last kettle I had which was a prolonged noise rather than this relatively quick noise. The TV in the kitchen is still audible over this kettle boiling however and I have had noisier ones.
The kettle does looks pretty good and sits nicely on my kitchen work top plus it also is very easy to clean and with a damp cloth it comes up nicely. I can't say the general use of the kettle is that great and although this kettle will do me for now I don't think I will keep it that long before trading it in as the kettle itself feels rather heavy to hold (especially when filled with water). The black plastic handle on the top of the kettle although smooth and practically placed doesn't feel entirely comfortable to me but I wonder if this is because I generally have an upright kettle as opposed to this traditional style one.
Although the spout doesn't seem large enough to fill up the water straight from the tap at any fast rate, it does however make for a great pouring of the hot boiled water from the kettle to the cups and mugs. I can say I have ever spilt any of the water and it comes out in the smooth and together line of water which differs a great deal from my messy making last kettle.
All in all I have to say that this kettle is great for the price. It is a cheap and nice looking appliance that has a quick boil function and generally works really well. The only thing I don't like is the traditional style of it but this is more to do with me and my personal preference as I'm not used to getting these styles of kettles but I am more than likely sure I will get used to it.
As far as a recommendation goes I feel this kettle would be given it highly. For what you get the price is great and I can find no fault with it at all really. I think a top score of 5 out of 5 stars is well deserved for this item.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
