Advantages: Robust design. Strong adjustable locking mechanism. Professional look.
I therefore did some research online and considered several keyboard stands varying from the cheap and cheerful to the expensive and comprehensive. This is neither of the two; instead lying in the Goldilocks region of 'just right'.
Bought from Amazon for the competitive price of £21.98 including postage (now priced at £19.98 - humph!) it comes complete requiring no additional set-up. It measures 102x50x7cm when collapsed but is quite light (5.4kg) considering its size and is easy to carry around if required. Straight from the box, all that was required was to unlock the locking mechanism and adjust it to the height I desired. This reminded me of opening an ironing board (despite my lack of familiarity in this area).
Made from strong black tubular metal the build quality is exceptional. It looks much more expensive than the modest price tag and also looks very professional.
The stand is universal and will accommodate a variety of keyboard sizes. My keyboard is 95cm wide and fits easily on the stand at 56cm high with some slight overhang either side (essential to prevent your keyboard from slipping inwards when playing).
The stand is adjustable to widths between 23cm and 99cm but at these extremes you will either be playing virtually on the floor or standing up (not to mention the tiny/huge gap to place your keyboard). A much more realistic width range for those of us who wish to sit down whilst playing is 75-100cm. As a result this stand will fit a variety of keyboard sizes from 61 keys up to a full-sized 88 keys.
The main reasons for me buying this particular stand were the double-braced design and the extra-strong locking mechanism. I had just shelled out around £80 for my new keyboard and didn't want to be in a situation where my most prized recent acquisition found itself on the floor after a three foot drop. The security and robustness of the stand were thus very important to me.
The double-braced design differs from other cheaper stands that feature a single X-shaped frame. The double X design makes the stand much more stable especially on a carpeted surface such as mine and prevents the stand from feeling wobbly or unstable. I would definitely recommend this double-braced design for anyone looking to buy a keyboard stand.
The locking mechanism is a circular toothed mechanism which interlocks tightly and is very secure. To adjust the height you simply pull the handle outwards and raise or lower the stand as required, pushing the handle back in when done. The handle fastens tightly in place to lock the mechanism but at the same time is not too difficult to loosen again if you need to re-adjust the stand.
The stand has 8 'feet' all with rubber padded ends which act to secure your keyboard in place and also keep the stand firmly rooted to the floor - these would be especially useful on hard flooring but are equally suited on carpet.
If you're looking for a solid, strong, adjustable stand for your keyboard then I would highly recommend this product. It is suitable for a variety of keyboard sizes and will provide you with the security and peace of mind you need.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: A very strong, secure and affordable stand for your keyboard.
