I bought this keyboard around 4 years ago, and I find it really good for its price. The main feature I love about this keyboard is the control knobs which allows you to control different kind of effects such as reverb, chorus, attack... and the pitch bend which lets you switch the pitch in play-time. You can reproduce authentic and natural electric and classic guitar songs with it.
Other than that, they keyboard allows you to plug a sustain pedal, but even if you don't have the pedal, you can still reproduce the release effect which makes the job decently.
Besides being a really good keyboard, that allows you to reproduce a tons of instruments with different effects, and that actually has a memory to record songs with multiple instruments, the reason I bought this keyboard was because it has a MIDI interface which allows me to plug into the PC to produce in programs like Reason; Cubase and FL Studio, since it does send MIDI signals to the computer.
I'm not going to write a lot about the specifications of this keyboard, I'm going to write about why I decided to buy it compared to other keyboards in its price range.
If you are looking around for a keyboard, most likely something for your home for the family to use or learn to play on, you want something that sounds good, has a good variety of sounds and is built to a high quality.
The Yamaha PSR-E403 fits the bill and I'll tell you why...
I've worked in the music industry (a while ago now!), and have worked with synths, sound modules and samplers. The principal was the same then as it is now, you want high quality sounds. You want a realistic piano sound, you want a strong synth pop lead sound, be able to use smooth and warm strings. What you don't want is low quality un-inspiring sounds that don't encourage you to play, learn and create.
The first things I noticed with this keyboard were the high quality and wide range of drums available, this is matched by the vast array of all types of instruments. They're all selectable via a control wheel and number pad along with many of features and options. The keyboard also has built in effects such as chorus and reverb, which again are very high quality.
There are quite literally so many features on this keyboard that you need to take a look at the manual if you can find it online. It's mind blowing what you can do, especially if you connect it to a computer via the USB port.
The keyboard features powerful speakers that have a great bass, mid and treble response and are pretty loud. It also has a headphone socket / audio output in stereo.
If you are looking for a keyboard that sounds great, feels nice to play and offers a large amount of features and options, you won't be disappointed with the Yamaha E403. I certainly wasn't and I am hard to impress when it comes to this kind of product.
