Advantages: Superb quality sounds
Disadvantages: No Eb or C#!
I have this model in it's silver finish, and I bought it from Argos for about £250. The reason I purchased this, is I had gone to uni and stupidly not taken any of my keyboards with me, and I slowly started to get withdrawal symptoms as it had been the longest I had been away from my keyboards since first owning one. Being a student and on a budget, I initially bought a cheaper one however it wasn't really sufficient for my needs as it had something daft like 30 keys on it, and the keys were not properly sized at that!
For a student, £250 on a keyboard is very ridiculous however I don't regret buying this for a second! I went to the Argos store in Middlesbrough were I am at uni, and fortunately I had my friend Aaron with me to help me carry it back because the box was absolutely massive!
It wasn't till I got it back to my accommodation and got it out of the box that I had to pause before finally coming up with "woww" as a response. Now for someone who really loves her keyboards this was a real treat for me, as this is actually a digital piano so not your average keyboard.
It has 76 piano style keys, with pre touch settings (you can't alter this but generally it doesn't cause much of a problem). There are two speakers either side of the keys, and the sound is really beautiful. Usually on your standard keyboard, the piano sound is good but you can tell it's been sampled and is never as good as a real piano because it also runs on midi. This is not the case with this keyboard, as the piano sound is lush!
There are 10 voices including 3 piano sounds, 2 organs, 2 Harpsichords and then a strings and vibraphone sound. The favourite of these sounds is the 1st piano sound as it is very realistic, however the depth and quality of the string voice is also quite pleasant too.
Whilst at uni I played this keyboard pretty much on a daily basis, as even though I'm on a design course music has always been my first love. However a noisy keyboard perhaps isn't everyone else's love so fortunately I used my headphones (the same ones I reviewed for dooyoo!) and the sound is equally as lush with these as it is through the speakers. The volume control isn't terribly varied, however at it's loudest setting it is reasonably loud however it wouldn't be loud enough for say a recital so you would need to connect it to external speakers or something.
Since bringing this keyboard home, I have used it for MIDI recording alot, and as it has a greater range than my other keyboards it means I can record more piano based pieces without having to compromise on the amount of octaves I can include.
As much as I love this keyboard, I do have a couple of little downsides about it too. Firstly, it's design is a little strange infact to me it appears the notes have been printed back to front! What I mean by this, is the lowest black note is an F#, whereby on a real piano this is an Bb, and even on my smaller keyboards there is always the C# and Eb printed. What this equals is too many high notes and not enough bass notes, which can be frustrating when you are trying to play certain bassslines with the left hand, as you end up having to play higher up so you have enough notes!
Also, there is no transpose or record/playback option. I do like to mess around recording ideas and playing with layers so for me this is a bit of a setback, but then considering the quality and tone this keyboard gives off perhaps I am asking too much to have it all.
Overall I am very glad I skinted myself at uni to buy this, as it really is a fabulous purchase for someone who loves their keyboards and pianos as much as I do! As I have it in silver, it is also really sleek and professional looking. I am going to give this product 4/5 dooyoo stars, it would have been 5 stars however the small complaints I had about the product just took it down a level. Otherwise, I am very pleased I bought this product and would recommend it to all musicians alike!
Summary: A really indulgent (but worth it!) purchase
