Dell QuietKey Standard USB Keyboard
by pnefc22
A few years ago, I purchased a new Dell computer and this was the keyboard that came with the computer so it came at no extra cost to me. It is a standard Qwerty keyboard, measuring 14cm x 45cm. It came packaged in a sturdy cardboard box which was filled with bubble wrap. Inside the box, there was also a year warranty and an instruction ... manual. The instruction manual seemed clear enough but I did not use it so cannot possibly comment.
With regards to setting it up, it is a very simple case of plugging it in via the USB cable meaning that it is compatible with all PCs and laptops. The software installs instantly and you can start using the keyboard.
The keyboard itself is clear to read and has stood up well to usage with regards to the markings on the keyboard which normally wear on most keyboards but this keyboard has not worn which is good. There is also a light system to tell you when caps lock or number lock are on which is a pretty standard feature on keyboards.
The only disadvantage is that it's so called 'QuietKey' does not work. The keyboard is not quiet at all, making a clacky noise with every button press. This is a lot louder than a standard laptop keyboard and can get annoying to other people but if you are using it in a private room, then it is perfectly functional.
Overall, it is a decent keyboard which has lasted a good few years and can be purchased for around £10. The 'QuietKey' system clearly does not work but this is only an inconvenience to other people....not to you. Read the complete review |

Dell QuietKey Standard USB Keyboard
by chazababy
For my 18th birthday I had asked my parents for a computer of my own to save me sharing with my Father. Computers back then were more expensive than what they are now, so I didn't hold out much hope of them agreeing. My parents had decided to talk to my Uncle who builds computers as a hobby. He orders in the parts for the computers and ... builds them up himself, surprisingly enough he found out how to build them through the internet. It works out much cheaper than buying one and he is able to make a little money off it for himself too. Luckily for me my Uncle agreed to make the computer, he ordered the parts and it was only a waiting game till the parts had arrived and ready for him to start building my computer.
My Uncle had ordered all the parts for the computer from a website called ebuyer. I'm not sure if you have heard of it before but I had never head of it, this was the first. As well as ordering all the inside parts for my computer that makes it work, he also ordered me speakers, a mouse, and a keyboards, all from the same website. If you are wanting to have a look at the website I have listed it for you below. They are very reasonably priced, the website is:

In this review I am going to tell you all about my keyboard that was ordered with my computer. I will also write other reviews on the different items that my Uncle ordered with my computer, so if you find this review useful please keep an eye out for my further reviews.
For some unknown reason when computers first came out the keyboards where light in colour, then a few years ago you could get black mixed with silver and these days all you seem to find is black, I guess maybe as this is the new in colour and to be fair it does hide a lot of dirt compared to the others. The jet black keyboard is roughly around 14cm by 45cms in size, nothing special just your usual standard sized everyday keyboard. I do however have rather small hands, almost child like, I am able to manage in covering all of the keys and able to type with speed and precision with no strained hands, wrists, or fingers. Although the keyboard itself is a good size for me to be able to reach off the keys, the keys themselves are not small allowing no clumsy typing with pressing two buttons at a time. As you press the keys to type there is a slight sound that you hear but no loud noises that come from the keyboard unlike many other keyboards that I used at my old school. Some keyboards are pretty standard with no features, this actually suits me better as I cant help but find that simple things to make life a little easier also makes us a little lazier, so this keyboard is perfect for me with no fancy buttons that confuse me. The keyboard features all of the standard keys that you would normally expect to find on a keyboard, letters, punctuation, your F keys, your instruction keys, your arrow keys and also a separate number pad which is attached to the keyboard.
What I like about this keyboard is that when I use the cap locks a little green light appears to let me know that they are on. Also when I am about to use the number pad there is also a light that comes on to let me know that I can use it or if the light is off, it lets me be beware that I cannot type the numbers as they will not come up on the screen. There is a button in which you can press for the cap and number pad locks to come on or turn off.
I have noticed that not only when I type are the keys quicker that previous ones that I have used but also when I am in a hurry to reply to some ones message (normally in a Facebook Chat) my typing is much faster and surprising enough the keyboard is able to keep up to speed with me instead of holding back and taking a few moments to catch up. With previous keyboards that I have used this has been an issue, I am quite a fast when I type at the best of times and there is nothing worse that writing what you want to and not seeing it instantly. With previous keyboards I have also noticed that my fast typing has led me to press a few buttons at the same time causing typos in my writing, however this has never happened with this computer keyboard, I really am really glad that me and my new keyboard is getting on well together.
I have had this Dell keyboard for quite a few years now. I first got it when I was 18, I am now 25 and while me and my beloved keyboard has separated, it now lives on a new computer desk at my Mothers house and is still going on strong. My Mother doesn't know much about computers and while I am teaching her I get to still use my favourite keyboard. My Mother has panicked a few times in case she has broken it as she is quite clumsy and dropped it on the laminated flooring. Luckily though the keyboard is still in one peace and still functions well. For such an old keyboard I must say it looking in quite good condition, the letters keys, numbers keys, F keys, arrows, and instruction keys are still all visible. There are however a few scratches on it but that's normally wear and tear of 7 years worth of usage.
I struggled to find out how much I paid for this Dell keyboard as the receipt is nowhere to be found after so long but having researched it I have found that you can now buy this keyboard for around the price of £16.00. Normally what I would suggest is that you grab a bargain and go for a cheaper on like ARGOS Value Range, ASDA'S Smart Price or TESCO'S Value Range as the ones that you can pick up in the supermarket is always cheaper than other that you will find. Supermarkets own makes normally range from £4 to £10 which to be fair you cant complain at the price but it also comes down to the quality of the product. But for once I am going to recommend that you go for something that you know works well, is good quality and lasts a long time so that you get your moneys worth. For this reason I would highly recommend this Dell Keyboard for your computer, it doesn't only worth with Dell computers, it is compatible with many others and it is easy to install, just plug it in via USB to your computer, follow the instructions and your ready to start. I would rate this product full marks out 5 out of 5. I would also like to thank you all very much for taking the time to read my review. I hope that it is of some use to you in helping you decide if this keyboard is for you or not. Thanks again for your time. Read the complete review |
