Overview

Belkin have a reputation for making very solid wireless kit and this keyboard and mouse set, although unspectacular, is no exception.

Mouse

I know the mouse itself is described as a mini but in reality it isn't, it's maybe very slightly smaller than your average mouse but doesn't feel tiny like a lot of mini mice do in my big manly hands. One thing the it does mean is that the mouse is only five button, 2 top, two side and scroll wheel so probably isn't one for the hard core FPS players.

It's quick and responsive up to around 4 metres from the receiver.

The only slight moan I would have about it is that it chews batteries fairly quickly; you might drain a set in about 6 weeks so best to get some rechargeables.

Keyboard

The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, because it's a slim model its keys are pretty close together and feather touch responsive. That keeps is quiet but it's also easy to make mistakes by hitting more than one key, particularly while you are getting used to the new setup. Once you're going you should be fine but it might not be for everyone.

It's nice and light, there are a few additional controls including media centre fast keys and a PC standby button and the batteries last forever (six months now).

General

Installation is a doddle, plug the wireless dongle in, stick the accompanying disk in the drive, a quick install and you're away. Interface is USB and you only need the one slot.

It's also worth noting in this section that the mouse and keyboard's range is really good, far better than the 1.5 metres suggested on the box. As long as they are within about 4 metres of the receiver they remain really responsive and the receiver itself is on a 1 metre cable, giving you loads of range.

Zal's guide to using this kit

Step 1

Buy a large monitor and have you bed within 4 metres of it.

Step 2

Lie in said bed, use wireless keyboard and mouse to control screen while binging through Battlestar Galactica.

Step 3

Profit!

Summary: Very solid wireless mouse and keyboard combo
