Advantages: Mostly

Disadvantages: Lock LRDs not available

To be very candid Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000, keyboard, mouse is my first experience with wireless input device, I must say the except the brief learning process the transition was an excellent decision. The feel is lofty and enjoying. There is no doubt the touch is very good and is very foolproof.

The Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000, keyboard, mouse is a pack of Wireless Keyboard 3000 V2.0 and the WirelessMouse 5000.

Although some what large in size both key board and mouse (all wireless) in fact it comes with every thing necessary like keyboard, mouse, USB dongle, AA (4) batteries along with the CD containing Windows/Mac drivers.

SETUP/INSTALLATION

To install the required components, first the setup has to be run:
1) Insert the 4 AA batteries
2) Plug in the small dongle

For customization of the Keyboard:

Insert the CD in ROM and install the drivers for XP/Mac or install the extra software necessary to make it compatible with Linux.

The Driver CD provides drivers for Windows and MacOS.X and infect these keyboards including all the special keys are well supported in Linux environment, might be with packages/packs for enabling keyboard customization.
The combination works perfectly with devices that support USB Human interface device) with out the software. Just plug in the dongle it will work perfectly Windows XP/MacOS X and Unbantu/Linux.

Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000, keyboard mouse is a standard 2.4 GHz unlicensed spectrum device but the one of main issue of concern is that nMicrosoft has not specified any security precaution used on the wireless link. This might be big security issue while used in hugh density area since the various devices link up to the dongle when all are powered on since the coverage area is 30'.

It's great to see that the keyboard is all stuffed with shortcut keys, it seems no function that the Ms Word uses left out. In fact for heavy users these keys alone is worth the money.

KEYBOARD

The integrated wrist-rest, subtle curving of the keyboard, and rounding off of the bottom row of keys makes for a very comfortable typing experience. As I have mentioned earlier the keys can be programmed with the software supplied. The keyboard layout is impeccable with all the controls you can hope for-full multimedia controls for music and video play back and even short cits keys leading you to web pages and other applications as well. As I have mentioned in the beging the typing feel is excellent but not really to put cloud nine. The best thing to say will be that it may not be the best or invincible but more than very decent. The worst being it has no LEDs for caps lock and so on for other lock keys..

THE MOUSE

The mouse uses Microsoft's BlueTrack laser, which gives exceptional tracking on number of surfaces and believe they really work with no fuss. Try it out on your palms, a bare piece of wooed table, bed, carpet and even raged paper it tracks with equal accuracy. With the size just as that of notebook mouse fitting snugly into your palm. Mouse andkeyboard, both of them are connected to the PC with the USB transceiver and mind you can be tucked under the mouse naturally good when on the move.
Everything is more or less is perfect but I have my own reservation about the sensitivity of the mouse, such a large 24in/30in LCD it does demand more sensitivity. My guess is that the mouse sensitivity is at most, say, 800dpi.. The buttons offers fairly good tactile feedback

BATTERY LIFE

The battery life claimed is 8 months when used on normal basis. My stuff conks 5 and a half months at most.

At around 41 pounds it's worth an experience and definitely good for the price.
