Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, quick to set up
Disadvantages: Not as attractive as some on the market
I recently had to lay my poor super-sexy slim line keyboard to rest, due to it having taken one bath of tea too many as a result of my clumsiness. After days of struggling with the whole of the top row of buttons not working, and windows mysteriously opening where the keys had jammed, I decided it was time to invest in a new one.
What does it do?
You'll be pleased to learn that using this keyboard allows you to type words onto your computer screen! An amazing 108 keys are available for your use on this keyboard - I read this on the website but I counted them to make sure, and yes, they were telling the truth. All the normal keys are included, I'm sure you don't want me to name each one - q, w, e, r....
The keyboard also has sleep, Wake Up and Power keys - use at your own risk - many a time I've pressed sleep only to struggle waking up my dozing computer - maybe it's had too many late nights. The only other 'feature' on this keyboard are the three little green lights which light up when you press caps lock, scroll lock and/or number lock. Overall, a standard keyboard in all aspects, including layout.
The technical bit...
This keyboard is just under 45cm wide, relatively longer than my last keyboard, although that was a small one so it probably just seems big comparatively, and 16cm deep.
It states that it is suitable for all computers with a PS/2 connection. I wasn't sure what this meant so I asked the man on the desk, and he told me that almost all computers have one of these, and was sure I would have one - he was right, so a gold star for him.
In the box you will also receive a multi-language instruction booklet/user manual but this was not needed, even I could work out what to do - plug it in the hole it fits in and start typing!
What does it look like?
I must admit that this keyboard isn't as attractive as my last one. It's quite chunky, and it's colouring (black with white lettering)is pretty dull. It looks professional enough though and definitely doesn't give me anything to complain about, looks wise. If you're after something a bit more stylish, this probably isn't the keyboard for you.
The price
I picked up mine at asda for the bargain price of just £4.74, which was definitely the main reason for my purchase, yeah, I'm a cheapskate. I've had a hunt around and the cheapest I could find online was at ebay for £3, but then with postage added it came to £6, so your best bet if your looking for one is checking out the supermarkets.
The Verdict
Good! I initially thought that this keyboard would just be a stand-in until I found another bargain of better quality, but I am actually growing to love this keyboard and am not going to continue my search for a new one.
Although the keyboard is pretty basic, let's face it, how many times does a person actually use all those special extra keys? I know I didn't use them once on my old keyboard, apart from shortly after first purchasing it of course, when I tested them all out.
The keyboard also comes with a two year manufacturer warranty which is brilliant; if you have your keyboard for two years, that's less than 20p per month!
I've had a good tug at all of the keys and they seem to be staying put well - the lettering on the keys is clear and well printed with the exception of the 'R' key on my particular keyboard which is very slightly faded, but I shan't complain. The only disadvantage I will give is its appearance - although professional and not bad looking, it simply doesn't 'push my buttons' (ha ha) as much as my last keyboard did - there are more stylish keyboards out on the market.
Overall, you can't knock this keyboard, and for less than a fiver you're laughing. If you are after a cheap little replacement keyboard (or even a spare), I definitely recommend this Trust keyboard!
