Asda George Muslin Squares
by bluebell190
When I had my baby I didn't really have any idea what to buy or what I really needed! I had searched on the internet for lists of things to buy before your baby arrives, and muslin squares were always mentioned. I only bought a pack of 3 muslin squares to start off with, but when my baby arrived I realised how much of an essential item ... these are! I must own a good 6-8 packs of these, I have so many! I buy my muslin squares from Asda, for £3.50.
You get 3 muslin squares in a pack, and I buy the blue ones for my son, in which you get a dark blue one, baby blue one and a white one patterned with blue stars. These muslin squares are also available in plain white and pink. I have these everywhere in my house, in the front room, kitchen, bedroom, in the car, changing bag and my hand bag. You never know when you might need one!
I use these muslin squares mainly for burping my baby after a feed, my son was often really sick after a bottle, and these just used to get soaked and we used about 15 a day when he was newborn! He is now 9 months old, and we use them mainly for wiping his face, he dribbles a lot because he is teething, so these are great to keep drying his face. They have so many uses, I have used them on my car seat over the top as a sun shade if I have forgotten my sun umbrella when out and about, I have used them as an emergency cot sheet in my carry cot when my son was sick and I forgot to bring spares with me! I also use them to put on changing mats when in public toilets if they don't have the tissue to lie them on, then they can just be put in a nappy bag until we get home to wash them. They really do come in handy in so many situations with a baby. My son loves to chew on one of these too, when his teeth are hurting him, he screws them up into a ball and they are nice and soft on his gums so I know they won't hurt him.
These muslin squares are made of 100% cotton, they are really soft which is what I love about them at the moment, as they are soft and gentle on my sons face as I am wiping it every two minutes! They are so lightweight so you can carry lots of these around with you in your changing bag without them adding too much weight. They are very thin, you cannot soak up a lot of liquid, and when I son was really sick when he was first born, the milk that he brought up would sometimes just actually run off the muslin square onto the floor instead of it being absorbed straight away. They can't take much liquid before they are completely wet through. The liquid also went through onto my hands a few times too.
They don't wash too well in the washing machine, most of mine have shrunk slightly, and all shrivelled and curled up around the edges, they look old, and do need replacing often if you use them so much like I do, they don't last forever, but as they are so cheap I don't mind. I like how you can roll them up really small, they fit in little side pockets this way in my changing bag.
I do like these muslin squares, they have been used so much since my baby was born I couldn't have done without them! They are not the best you can get, but you can't complain when they are so cheap. I will continue to buy these as they are good enough for what I need them to do for my son now, and we don't go through half as many now, but I will definitely just be sticking with these Asda muslin squares if I have a next baby, and highly recommend them! Asda Little Angels Wide Neck Bottles
by northernlovely
When my little girl was 6 months we went from breast feeding to introducing some follow on milk to her, so her introduction to a bottle was maybe a bit later than some. We tried so many bottles - Avent, MAM, Tommee Tippee, Dr Brown, and she never seemed happy with them. The teats were very rounded and the bottles were giving her colic. ... Then a friend said that she had exactly the same problem and she went from the very expensive bottles to cheap ones and hey presto, happy baby.
So I picked up a two pack of Asda Little Angels Wide Neck Bottles for £3.60. At that price I thought well, it's worth a try. I also went for a fast flow wide neck teat at an additional £2.40 for two as the breast milk flowed quite fast and I'd noticed her getting frustrated with the slow flow of even medium teats.
The combination of Asda Little Angels Wide Neck Bottles and wide fast flow teats was a winner!
The bottles are clear and hold up to 7oz of milk comfortably. They have different colour sets available - pink and purple for girls, and green and blue for boys but I did end up with a set of green and blue when they ran out, and they're so sweet that really, it doesn't matter. There is a pretty picture of circles on the sides and the measurements are embossed on the side not printed (probably for safety). The bottle has a coloured screw on 'hoop' to hold the teat, and a matching opaque lid. They look very nice, and they're very easy to clean, no niggly bits where milk gets stuck. You can wash them by hand, or put them in the dishwasher, and they fit in all types of steriliser (though I actually stopped sterilising around 9 months so my daughter could build up immunities).
The bottle is comfortable to hold when feeding baby, and comfortable for baby to grip onto and hold when they get old enough to, too. There's no bells and whistles - the design is simple, neat and it works well. She never had any colic or trouble using these and I will certainly be buying them again for my next child, over the course of a year the Asda Little Angels Wide Neck Bottles did eventually start to scratch and discolour in the dishwasher, but for the money I really can't complain at all, they lasted well, were great to use and made life so much easier. I will certainly recommend them with full marks and will be going to them first when I need bottles in the future. Please don't change the design, Asda, these are the best bottles bar none!
