NUK Mickey Minnie Learner Bottle
by Whizz11
Even though I breastfed both of my children for about 6 months each, something I am very proud of, I still had them use bottles and we definitely moved onto bottles once they had finished breastfeeding. We tried various different ones with each of them until we found some that really worked for them and for my little girl it was the Nuk ... range of bottles. These have a more natural looking teat in my opinion and the fact that the bottles had Disney Mickey and Minnie mouse pictures on them definitely helped as well.
When it came time for her to move from a bottle to more of a training cup for her milk and drinks I turned once again to NUK as I knew they had these bottles in stock as I had seen them on their website and so purchased her a Mickey Mouse Learner bottle. I know you can purchase the bottles from Boots but I have never seen these cups in store and have always purchased mine from the NUK website which is easy to do and delivery is fast. When you order they cannot guarantee whether you get a red cup or a black cup but this didn't really bother me although all the ones I ordered have been red. The pattern on the side consists of a see-through bottle and then Mickey and Minnie in either red or black designs which is quite cute and quite good quality in my opinion. My little girl always loved the design and still does to this day.
The Mickey Mouse learner bottle is actually better described as a cup in my opinion rather than a bottle as it has a spout rather than a bottle teat and looks more like a cup.
NUK say that these Learner Bottles are designed to make the transition from breast/bottle feeding to drinking from a cup easier. The Disney design also helps to keep your child entertained whilst drinking.
The spout is like one you would find on a Tommee Tippee drinking cup although this one is made of see through silicone so its quite bendy when your little one puts it in their mouth and has a similar texture to a teat although its a little bit thicker. The nice thing about these cups is that the spout is non spill meaning much less mess.
The bottle is a small size bottle (150ml) and you then put it into a plastic holder which has trainer handles on either side. I like that you can remove the cup from these handles as it makes cleaning easier and if you want to just use it as a bottle during the transition period you can do that too. The handles are quite far spaced apart which is nice making it easy for little hands to grip hold of and keep hold of more importantly. You do need to make sure that you line this up properly when you put the bottle in the plastic holder as sometimes the handles would be not at right angles to the spout but you can just twist it round which is not a problem.
My little girl found this cup really easy to hold onto and I will soon be introducing this to my little boy for his bedtime milk rather than giving him his bottle as I feel he is old enough now (wish me luck)
The bottle is BPA (Bisphenol A) free so its nice to know its a safe product and I recommend this brand to all my mummy friends as this is one that really worked for us. The cost £5.99 from the NUK website. Read the complete review |

Tommee Tippee Bottle and Teat Brush
by emmad5689
I bought this brush a couple of weeks ago when I found it for £1.50 in my local Home Bargains store, I don't have any babies anymore so no bottles to clean but my elder daughter drinks from a sports bottle and I have found giving it a full clean difficult along with her school water bottle so thought this would be perfect. ...
You can buy the brush in supermarkets and chemists and of course there are many different types of bottle brush which pretty much all do the same job, the thing I liked with this one is that there is a thick end and a thin end for easy cleaning. Supermarkets generally sell this brush for between £2 and £2.50.
The brush is basically a plastic rod with soft wide bristles at one end and then much smaller bristles at the other end, it is white and blue in colour and is pretty sturdy and doesn't feel like it's going to snap while you are using it.
The bristles work really well and they keep their shape well, I have found that even though I push the bristles into a small opening to clean the sports bottle and then pull them back through the same small opening they still hold their original shape really well. The small end of the brush is really useful for cleaning the top of the sports bottles and is much better than using a cloth which really wasn't giving a complete clean.
The brush is certainly worth 5 stars as it is a decent price, durable and cleans the bottles out really well which was the whole point of buying it, I am very pleased with it. Read the complete review |

Mothercare Burp Cloths
by InchyInchy
Mothercare burp cloths
I have found that one essential item needed for my baby is muslins, muslins and more muslins. They come in handy for everything, absolutely everything from clean up duties to acting as breast feeding covers. So I was more than a little dubious when my husband purchased these Mothercare burp cloths ... rather than just investing in another quality packet of my much loved and relied upon muslin squares. However, now that I have been using the Mothercare burp cloths for a while I do think that they have their place. If I am honest I am not sure that I would have purchased the burp cloths myself but I certainly wouldn't put them back now.
There is nothing complicated about the burp cloths, they are simply an elongated rectangular piece of absorbent cloth that you can easily throw over your shoulder before positioning the little one to protect your clothes from possible spit up. The cloths also serve well as a make shift bib if you have forgotten to take one or if a bib isn't close at hand when required.
The material the burp cloths are made from is mostly cotton (75 % cotton and 25 % polyester) so is very soft and gentle to the touch. The cloths also come in either a pack of three white burp cloths or a multi colour set (containing an orange, green and yellow cloth). I own the multi coloured set and they are lovely and pretty gender neutral.
The burp cloths do come in handy because unlike the larger muslins that you need to fold to fit well over your shoulder these come in the perfect shape. However, they do have some small disadvantages such as I wouldn't take the burp cloths out and about with me because I would probably still need to take a muslin as well, why take two items when one will do? Especially when leaving the house with the little bundle is difficult enough to do anyway without looking like you have already packed everything bar the kitchen sink. And if I was being really picky I do think that they could be ever so slightly wider. Sometimes I find when using the burp cloths that they just don't cover enough shoulder surface, especially with a little baby that is learning to move their neck and will spit up in all directions. But generally the burp cloths do serve their purpose well.
I have been repeatedly using and washing the burp cloths for nearly a month now and so far they have kept their shape and retained their colour. Apart from an ever so slightly used look the cloths have survived lots of milky spit up and baby dribble and I am sure they will do for much longer to come.
I definitely think that the Mothercare burp cloths have earned their keep in our house and although they are not by any means an essential item I do appreciate having them around and I would recommend them. Therefore, from me they get a four out of five star rating.
If you are interested in owning your very own set of burp cloths then you can purchase them from most Mothercare stores or from Mothercare's online website for £4.99. A bargain in my eyes because it has saved me from having to wash, dry and clean more of my and my husband's clothes on a regular basis. Read the complete review |
