Bumbo Baby Seat
by h_perry ==Bumbo seat== I have heard mixed reviews regarding the Bumbo seat, so I wouldn't have gone out and bought this product personally, however we received one as a gift so we decided it would be rude not to give it a chance. The daily mail has done an article in the past year over the Bumbo recall in which four million seats were ... recalled due to reported accidents whilst children had been using the seats. The most severe of these accidents lead to 24 cases of infants suffering with skull fractures. However, this has been confirmed that these are due to people using the seats on raised surfaces. I would have presumed this would have been common sense however, if this was not told in the instruction manual then perhaps it might have needed to have been added. I have heard that these have been used whilst on high surfaces such as kitchen tops and tables, this to means more of a lack of common sense than the product being unsafe. But this is just my personal opinion. Due to this people who had purchased Bumbo seats were then able to contact Bumbo and receive a free restraint pack which could be fitted to the seat to make it safer. Bumbo is a South African company which is non-profit making in that all profits made go to under privileged children in South Africa, this is not as known as I would have presumed it would have been. Bumbo also sell a variety of other items that follow a similar idea to the Bumbo seat. The Bumbo seat comes in a variety of colours and patterns. The one we have is the blue one we do not have the restraint as we are in Cyprus and I was unaware of these until researching the product for this review. However, we never leave our son out of reach when he is in the seat so for us it is not necessary to have. The Bumbo floor seat is designed for use by infants who are unable to sit unaided; we have been using the chair since my son was 15 weeks so that he was able to hold his head by himself. He fits in the chair snug and still does now at near 6 months. We now use it as a feeding chair (on the floor) until the straps on the high chair fit my son properly. It works incredibly well for this purpose. The Bumbo website features the following warnings which I will redirect here for your consumer knowledge: 1) Always use with the restraint belt 2) Only use the seat on the floor on a level surface 3) Never used on raised surfaces 4) Always accompany your baby in the seat 5) Never use on chairs, in the bath or to carry your child 6) Never use near water You can also buy play trays which attach to the chair and allow you to place toys on the tray for the baby to be able to reach for them. I think the seat is useful but I will not be using it for much longer as at 6 months I feel he is getting to big for this seat now and he is very close to being able to sit unaided anyway. I feel that this seat receives a lot of bad press as when the product is used correctly then the seat is great and a worthwhile piece of equipment. My son enjoys sitting in the chair as he is able to have more independence and he is able to see more then if he was to be laid down on his play mat. Read the complete review |

Bumbo Baby Seat
by sarahrichmond5 I recently purchased a bumbo seat for my five month old daughter. I have also purchased the tray that clips on the front so that they can have toys/food on there whilst they are sitting in the Bumbo. I have used the chair several times aready and found it brilliant. The chair is great as it means ... the baby seems more involved in day to day activities of the rest of the family. When they are sitting in the chair they can easily watch what other members of the family eg children are doing. My little girl loves hers and we have got plenty of use out of it already. The structure of the chair is very sturdy and would be difficult if not impossible to damage. The other great thing about this chair is how portable it is. Due to its size it can be taken anywhere with you, we recently went away for a weekend and I was able to take it with us which was great. The chair is easy to wipe down so is very hygenic especially around sticky fingers and sicky babies. I would definately recomend one of these chairs to anyone with a baby of a similar age. Bumbo Baby Seat
by hlb2009 This Bumbo seat is like marmite- some love it and some hate it. My first baby loved it, my second baby hated it! The bumbo is a hard foam chair for babies to sit in. I first saw it when Hope was born and lots of friends recommended it they said it was great for babies to sit upright before they were able to do so unaided. I ... was lucky that my cousin was able to give me one which her baby had just outgrown so we didn't have to pay for it. At the time they were about £40. The colour that we had was pink but it is available in a variety of colours including turquoise, red and blue. It looks like a potty to the untrained eye, so many people thought it was! But it's more comfortable than that with the 'hole' being an actual rounded seat which is shaped so your baby can fit into it comfortably. The back of this is smooth and will reach about the height of your little ones under arms although this will change obviously as they grow! Hope absolutely adored sitting in here. SHe would sit quite happily and play with toys or eat a biscuit. It meant I had more time to do things as I didn't have to always be there holding her up. She would quite happily sit in it for hours. I weaned her in this chair, I would sit on the floor and help her eat and it was really easy to clean up afterwards as it's wipe clean. When it came to having baby number two we bought a new bumbo as this had been given back. We bought it from Mothercare for £25 and this time it came with a play tray. Hope had enjoyed her Bumbo until she was 18 months old so we had lots of wear out of it- she had started to sit in it from about 5 months. We thought that £25 was a bargain but our second baby didn't like sitting in this. Whenever he was in it he acted as though he was trapped and would scream and kick about. If the tray was on he would hate it even more as it restricted him. In the end it became quite dangerous to leave him in this as he would arch his back so much he flipped out a couple of times. Luckily he never hurt himself but it seemed pointless to put him in something which meant he was upset and I couldn't turn my back for a second. We had thought the play tray would be a good addition but he grew frustrated about it keeping him trapped in but also he hated if something fell off the tray it frustrated him that he couldn't reach it off the floor. We ended up selling the bumbo and sticking to a highchair for him. It is a shame as our daughter loved it so much. I always thought people were being silly when they said they didn't like the bumbo and they thought it was dangerous but now I can see why. Hope would sit happily and it was very safe looking but for an active baby it's not ideal. It has no harness or anything so stopping him from falling out was impossible even with the tray on. I would recommend buying this if your baby is content and would like to sit but if your baby wants to be on the move then this may not be a good buy. If you can get one to try out then that would be ideal! Read the complete review |
