NUK Feeding Bottles
by bluebell190 Originally I had purchased Tommee Tippee bottles to feed my son, which I bought before he was born. When he was in hospital the first few days of his life, the nurses gave me sterilised disposable NUK teats, and disposable bottles to feed him, to save sterilising my own at home to bring into hospital. These NUK teats that I started my ... baby feeding on, were latex, and as my Tommee Tippee bottle teats were silicone and a very different shape, my son really struggled to feed from these when we got home from the hospital. I searched everywhere for these NUK teats and bottles, and the only place I could find them was in Boots, Amazon, and on the actual NUK website. I have never seen any anywhere else, they are not widely available like most other brands of bottles. I usually order mine of the Amazon website, although it works out slightly dearer, I don't pay for postage, which sort of makes it the same price as the NUK website, once you have paid for postage on there. There are a hole range of NUK bottles available, some with latex teats, some with silicone teats, there are lots of different sizes, and also some are glass and some are plastic. The ones I am reviewing, are the 240ml glass bottles, with a latex teat. These are priced at £5.65 a bottle on Amazon, and I have bought 4 so far. I don't need more than four bottles to feed my son. As once they are used, I just wash them and put them straight in the steriliser, so they are ready to use again. I get so many comments from people on these bottles, because not many babies bottles are actually glass. Most you buy are plastic, and I have tried plastic bottles, and even though they are lighter, for a baby to hold themselves, I find they take longer to cool the milk, and sometimes they tip up in the water as they are not heavy enough. The NUK glass bottles, cool in cold water with hot milk in them, in literally 1 minute. It has made making bottles so much quicker. You wouldn't believe how long a plastic bottle seems to take to cool down when you have a crying baby in the middle of the night! The glass bottles are heavy, but not too heavy to handle at all, they are sturdy when you place them in a jug of water, and never fall over as they have the weight in them keeping them stood up. This is one of the best things about them, as the amount of times I have gone back to a cooling plastic bottle, and it has fallen over in the water, then the water gets in the bottle and you have to start all over again! Even though they can be a little bit heavy to hold once filled with milk, I have got used to this now, and this is not a problem for me. There is no way my baby would be able to hold it himself, it is definitely too heavy full of milk for a baby to hold. They do these bottles exactly the same in plastic, if you wanted them, but I much prefer them in glass. The glass ones are not sold in boots, only the plastic ones are, so you have to order the glass ones online. One bad thing about these bottles, is the latex teats. These are the only teats my son drinks properly from, I have tried so many different makes, and you have to change them regularly. I buy mine in boots for £3.50 for 2, and I have to change them around every 3 weeks. They do not last long at all, and you can tell when they have had it! They change in colour, completely different to what they looked like originally, and they stick together whilst my baby is trying to feed. With four bottles being used, it costs me £7.00 every three weeks to change the teats. Sometimes you have find them on offer in boots for £2.60 so I tend to stock up on them then. You can get these bottles in different colours, you cannot choose the colour you want when ordering on Amazon, I have been sent three blue bottles, and one red bottle, and both are nice, for either a boy or a girl. Cleaning these bottles doesn't take too much time, but you do have to take them apart to clean them properly. The glass bottle itself is easy to clean, but the teat is connected to a plastic ring, which you have to take the teat out of to clean round, but the teat slots in and out really easily. The tops, are plastic, and really easy to clean. I have been using the same four bottles for around 8 months now, and the glass bottle, looks as good as new. The white rings on the top discolour easily, and I bleach them now and again to make them white again. The bottle lids colours look a little faded, and have scratched a little, and the teats are changed regularly, so for £5.65, I have more than got my moneys worth out of these bottles, they are used several times a day and washed and sterilised everyday, and are still in really good condition. The actual glass bottle doesn't look like it would ever need to be replaced, unless it got dropped and broken! The shape of these teats are made so that they don't interfere with your child's teeth growing. They are BPA free, and the bottles come with anti colic teats. These bottles have never leaked on me, unless the teats are getting worn out and sometimes they get a bit misshapen, and you find yourself adjusting them half way through a feed. But if you keep on top of the teats, and make sure you replace them at the first sign or wearing out, you don't get any leaks at all from any other part of the bottle. On the glass bottle, there isn't too much detail, so you can very clearly see the milk inside the bottle. It has a measuring guide up one side of the bottle, so you can measure the amount of water you put in the bottle, before adding your milk powder. On the bottom part of the bottle is a cute design going the hole way round, which has squares on it with a picture inside including a football, a teddy, a book etc. These bottles are available in 120 ml, 240 ml and 300ml, although I imagine the 300ml glass bottles to be extremely heavy especially when full of milk! I wouldn't go up to these ones, my son is happy with the 240ml ones, and the measuring guide on the side is also in ounces which is handy too. I love these glass bottles, although you have to be careful with them when you are transporting them about in your changing bag, mine have never broken, they are strong, sturdy and excellent quality bottles, and I couldn't recommend them enough, especially if you are looking for bottles with latex teats. These teats are soft and my son finds them so much easier to drink from, although this may be because these were the first teats introduced to him when he was born, but I couldn't recommend them enough. I will definitely be purchasing them again for my next baby, I just wish more places like supermarkets would stock them! Buying the teats all the time is a pain too, but I will still buy these bottles, and I highly recommend them! Read the complete review |

NUK Mickey Minnie Learner Bottle
by intejoes I predominantly breastfeed my son and it has been my ongoing battle since he was born to try and get him to feed from a bottle. After trying out various formulas, teats and bottles I was nearly ready to give up when my health visitor suggested that I try the NUK teats. I bought a pack of two teats online and found that they did not ... fit on any of the bottles I had, so I ended up getting a NUK bottle as well. The description said that this bottle comes with a silicone spout, so I figured I might as well get this one as I already had the teats to suit the bottle. I bought the red one and it is a really beautiful red colour, which is saying something as I dont usually care for such details as long as the thing works. The bottle is transparent plastic, straight sides unlike the funny curved ones of some other brands that i have, and has 150 ml capacity. The are clear markings in ml and ounces, and a Mickey mouse image on it. It says made in Germany on the bottle. The cap is a light red colour, and the top of the cap is well above the uppermost part of the spout (and not tightfit onto the teat as i have usually seen) so if you shake the bottle a bit of milk can come out through the teat/spout onto the cap. The handle of the bottle is detachable with a bit of effort, so there is no risk of the bottle slipping out of it if you little one is handling it by himself. It is made of a firm material, but is not uncomfortably hard, and has very little movement. The bottle is wide mouthed enough to allow easy cleaning. I think the straight sides make cleaning even easier. Now I come to the main event- the silicone non spill spout. You wont believe this - after trying for four months, my son is finally happily accepting bottlefeeds - with the spout! I quite like it myself. It is the same material as teat, has the same feel, although it looks a bit smaller. It is towards one side of the bottle rather than in the centre like a teat. This spout has a small hole at the side near the very top, and the milk does not flow out at a great speed, so it lets your baby drink comfortably. There is an airvent at the bottom of the spout which is supposedly an anti-colic feature. This bottle is part of the First Choice series, which means that you can use it with all other First Choice products. Price: £ 5.94 on Amazon I dont know whether it was the spout that worked or four months of persistence that paid off, but my son is now happy with bottles and I put it down to this one. I bought the bottle to use the teats, and now the teats are useless! I am very glad I bought it, thinking of getting the black one too. Read the complete review |

Nuk Soother Chain
by k2705 When Jayden was in hospital he was given a dummy by the nurses to help him settle at night, personally I'm not sure this was something I would have given him if he had come home with us straight away, however it seemed cruel to take it away so we have kept it but only if he is struggling to settle for naps and at night or if he is really ... upset. We purchased some new dummies for him and bought more than one so that we had always got a spare one if one was in the steriliser. However we did find that when he had his dummy to help him settle he would dose off with it in his mouth and it would drop out onto the floor when he fell asleep. During a recent shopping trip to Tesco something in the baby section caught my eye and when I looked at it closer it was a Nuk Soother Chain, basically a chain for his dummy which you attached to your baby's clothes so if they spit their dummy out it dangles on the chain and does not go on the floor, it was perfect to solve the problem of all of his dummies ending up dirty while we are out. The Nuk Soother Chain came attached to a small rectangle card, this was yellow towards the top and faded down to white at the bottom, at the top is the brand of the product, Nuk, which is written in large red letters, just underneath this is written "Soother Chain" in blue writing. The rest of the card is where the chain is positioned, it is held in place with plastic which was moulded around the chain. The back of the card contains all of the product information including instructions for use and warnings, these are written in small black writing but are easy to read and are also repeated in different languages. The Nuk Soother Chain basically consists of a chunky clear plastic circle, this has a picture of a teddy bear on it, on the back of the circle is a clear plastic crocodile clip, to open the clip you simply lift one end of it, the other end has small plastic teeth on it to help the clip grip, to make the clip grip to clothing you simply press the other side down. Attached to the circle is a reasonably long white plastic chain made up of small but chunky links, on the end of the chain is a large white plastic hook, to open the hook to attached the dummy you push one side of the hook to separate the two halves, to keep the dummy in place you push the two separated parts of the hook back together. The chain is moulded into the clear plastic circle so that it is unlikely to come apart and the hook is threaded through the links which make up the chain, again for extra strength. Using the Nuk Soother Chain is easy, all dummy's have some sort of handle/ hook on them so you simply thread the soother chains large plastic hook through this and fasten, you then open the crocodile clip on the back of the plastic circle and clip this to your baby's clothing, fastening it by pushing the end of the clip back down, the small plastic teeth will prevent it from slipping off and holds the clip in place. The soother chain is designed to be attached to your babies clothing, however it should not be attached to thick winter clothing as this may strain the clip and break it. There are various warnings which appear on the back of the packaging that came with the Nuk Soother Chain, these include * Check for any damage before each use and throw away at the first sign of damage. * Never lengthen the holder, do not attached ribbon, laces or string as this could strangle your baby. * Never attach to loose parts of clothing. * Use under supervision. * Do not use the soother chain in a cot, bed or playpen. * Do not use the soother chain as a toy or teething ring. It is important that these warnings are adhered to at all times to prevent injury to your baby. Keeping the Nuk Soother Chain in good condition is easy, in order to clean the chain you simply use luke warm water and a mild detergent and dry thoroughly. You must not clean the soother chain in a steriliser, you must not boil, steam or put in a dishwasher as this could cause damage to the item. As I have mentioned I purchased the Nuk Soother Chain from my local Tesco and it was being sold for just £1.99, although at the time we purchased it it was on offer for just 99p. Personally I thought this was excellent value for money even at full price. I did wonder how strong the chain would be as it was so cheap to buy, also if it did break after a while it wasn't going to cost me too much money to replace it, however so far we have not had to replace it and it has proved to be excellent value for money. We have had a lot of use out of our Nuk Soother Chain, we always use it when we go out in case Jayden gets really upset and we need to use his dummy to calm him down, using it means that if he spits the dummy out it does not fall onto the floor, this prevents it from becoming dirty and also getting lost when out and about. The soother clip really does work, the clip securely fastens onto Jayden's clothing and does not slip off as he moves about, the large hook on the ends also securely keeps the dummy in place as well. The chain is an ideal length meaning that the hook and the clip are never under strain, however it is not too long so that it can cause injury to your baby, the chain is also strong and withstands your baby pulling at it, the clip is definitely strong and hardwearing. The Nuk Soother Chain is definitely well worth the money, for us the chain has been extremely useful and has solved problems of Jayden's dummies being dropped on the floor and getting lost. I would never attach the chain to something other than his clothing and would not leave him with it unsupervised especially in bed, for us it is more something we use when out or when someone is with him. I would definitely recommend the Nuk Soother Chain and would certainly purchase another one should this one break. Read the complete review |
