Tommee Tippee Tip-It-Up First Cup Plus: ... have recently started weaning my 5 month old son, in my Annabel Karmel book it advises that I should start to introduce a cup to him as soon as possible, to get him used to drinking water out of a cup rather than a bottle. Whilst in Sainsburys I spotted the Tommee Tippee tip it up first cup. I decided to choose this one as it is a free flow spout, so the water pours straight out of it rather than the baby having ...

... started to introduce a drink of water once I had started weaning my son and used the Tommee Tippee first cup straight away. The cup is available in a number of shops (Tesco, Boots, Babies R Us etc) and is priced around £1.49-1.99. It is available in a number of colours - blue, green, red, orange. It is suitable for babies from around 4 months and is a basic cup with 2 handles which makes it easy for your child to hold. The lid has a flip up spout, so it s great for taking out with you as you can flip the spout down and not worry about the drink leaking. On one side of the cup are markings to show you the recommended level for juice and dilution with water. There a...

... your baby starts having solid foods, or when it s exceptionally hot, it s a good idea to introduce cool boiled water to their diet. How do you get this into baby? Most beakers and cups are recommended from 6 months up. We chose this cup for a few reasons. The first being it had two handles which would aid our daughter when she wanted to pick it up herself. We also chose it because it has a free flowing spout, which doesn t require any kind of sucking from baby. I found from trial and error that our daughter was used to the natural reaction of sucking from a teat, however when you introduce a similar teat hidden inside a spout shape, it can take some getting used to...

... is the best cup out there I think. It doesn t have a valve so babies don t have to suck to get liquid out. Cups that teach them to suck aren t really helpful for learning how to drink - they need to learn to tip the cup up. The hole is small enough for a young baby to cope with (I used them from 6 months) but an older child can still drink fast enough (my 3 year old would still use them if I let him!). It is a nice size and weight for a baby to hold. It has two handles although I think these get in the way at first. The spout flips down so you can carry a full beaker in your bag or the pram basket, and there are no lids to lose. As the child gets older they can p...
